ArenaNet: Closed Guild Wars 2 beta this year “for sure”

ArenaNet has reiterated it’ll “for sure” have a closed beta of Guild Wars 2 by the end of the year at least.

“We’re going to go into closed beta by the end of this year for sure,” lead content designer Colin Johanson told Eurogamer at last week’s Expo.

“We’re in closed alpha right now. We’re going to go into closed beta by the end of this year. Based on the outcome of the closed beta, that will determine our open beta schedule. Based on the outcome of the open beta, that’s going to determine our release date.

“If we tear through the beta and everything’s super positive then obviously it’ll come out faster. And if we go into the beta process and we see things we want to change, then we have the luxury of having the time to be able to sit down and fix that stuff.”

A French translation of a Korean report (Inception BMMMMPTH!) indicated that the MMO was due to be shown at Korean gaming show G-Star between November 10-13 “following the start of the Beta West.”

NCSoft had promised earlier this year it would have a beta for the game, with a full release next year.

I didn’t get very long with this game so I can’t say too much. It’s very pretty and very MMO-y.

After playing a bit of the game my excitement has dropped a little for this.

Is it me, or does this game seem to have been in development longer than SWTWoW?! lol.

I think you might be right. I don’t want to say it because I played so little but I was a little disappointed from what I saw of it.

Everyone that’s played GW2 loves the game it seems except for ^ that guy ^ and it’s the first truly next-gen mmo I’ve yet seen, heck it’s the first truly next-gen “game” I’ve seen. I really hope the open beta starts soon as I havn’t been this hyped for a game for several years!
