Nintendo confirms 3DS circle pad peripheral

Nintendo has told Kotaku the rumoured second-circle pad accessory for the 3DS is absolutely real.

“We can confirm that Nintendo plans to release the Circle Pad attachment, but Nintendo’s regional subsidiaries will make further announcements about its availability at a later date,” the platform holder said.

The peripheral was rumoured last month alongside a hardware revision, and leaked from Japanese magazines yesterday.

The second analog looks smaller than the first one! Even more ugly!

This thing is such a bloody eyesore. What the hell are they thinking? I mean, why release a handheld in this day WITHOUT dual analog sticks? That’s like the biggest request by handheld gamers, or at least it seems like that to me… a lucky non-handheld gamer. :)

@3: if i’m not wrong nintendo said that having a touchscreen a second analog is futile…
The problem now is that if you use the analog you can’t use the touchscreen and vice-versa!

@5, Surely you would want the situation to be a case of having both and the option to use one or the other, rather than picking one or the other and needing both.

It just seems like a silly choice considering there is a perfect amount of space on the console that would have easily fit another analog stick above or below the buttons.

Looks like things are slowly getting back to normal over at Nintendo…

@6:
The problem is that the analog is optional.
Will developer stay safe using analog and touchscreen for aiming or will they take the risk to use them in different ways(analog for aiming and touchscreen for inventory) so people without a second analog can’t play?

Seeing as how most of the handheld titles don’t need it, and the japs usually make games that hardly use it (if at all), I think they’ll be okay.
