Koelnmesse hits capacity for gamescom, entrances closed

Koelnmesse organisers have confirmed to Joystiq that the venue has hit capacity this afternoon in the third and penultimate public day of gamescom.

The venue’s capacity, according to KM when it spoke to the site, is 62,000, with entrances closed off around the venue.

We were sent this image by @jonfaec on Twitter earlier, just showing how congested it was inside.

The second photo we got, via @KyozoKicks, showed a massive crowd outside the Messe’s southern entrance, leading out from the Messe/Deutz train station. There’s a video below.

For the record, we never experienced anything remotely like this on the Wednesday, which was a trade-only day, and Thursday – the show’s first public day – when we were at the Messe. If you are there, please stay safe.

That makes me really fucking angry. It’s just greedy. The best case scenario is that no one can play games, and the worst is that someone gets hurt.

Oo And I thought it was packed yesterday… The Gears of War 3 queue will probably fill the whole hall today. :D

Yeah…we were there as Press victims and even the first Press Day was fuller than last year. Cod had a waiting time of 2 hours…thats not normal for a press day.

We were happy to watch some shows in the Business Area, because it was not enjoyable to stay in the halls when you have appointments and stuff. But thats not a possibility normal visitors have.

So, hope they fix this sh*t, because “normal” visitors pay enough for a single ticket…and waiting 8 hours for 2 games is a rip-off for those ppl who make all of this possible.

That’s horrendous, and woe betide there be any kind of emergency situation. When I realised it was INSIDE the venue, that people have paid to find that, it’s just unbelievable. I got from the US reports of GC was that it was unbelievably pongy, but this is an all together far more serious concern.

Incredible when you compare the visitors of 2009 with those of this year…I never expected such an increase…
