EA confirms August 16 date for gamescom presser

Der Startschuss für Köln ist gefallenn. EA has confirmed in a save the date notice that its gamescom presser will happen on August 16.

The conference will take place where its held its press conference for the past two years in downtown Cologne. Doors open at 3:30pm local time, with the conference starting at 4pm CET.

Expect the big guns to come out and play. Among others, FIFA 12, Mass Effect 3, The Old Republic and, of course, Battlefield 3. We’re guessing you’re going to hear a date for the start of the open beta for the pump-worthy DICE shooter at the event.

Last year’s event saw showings of FIFA 11, Dead Space 2, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and Harry Potter for Kinect, as well as the announcement of Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3 and the first showing of Dragon Age II.

Krazy Kraut is right. You really need some germans in your crew, just for stuff like… ehh… writing german. And Gamescom. And beer.

We’ll probably get the SWTOR beta and BF3 beta announcements then if they aren’t announced tomorrow.

If they’re planning on keeping the deadline for SWTOR, they should be far into the beta, with thousands upon thousands of players right now.

Of course stresstesting or open beta is something entirely different.

I was playing WoW for quite a while before launch though, that beta was huge.
