Uncharted: Golden Abyss gets new trailer

Sony’s released a new trailer for Uncharted: Golden Abyss, giving you a glimpse of some cool tricks you can pull off using the PS Vita’s touch-screen and rear touch-pad. The trailer’s very brief, but length is no guarantee of quality. Uncharted: Golden Abyss is in development by Sony Bend Studios and has no date as yet. Watch the trailer after the break.

When it cuts to the guy rubbing the track pad with that hand motion it just looks…wrong.

As far as I’m aware it’s optional. Which is good, because I’m not sure what the touch controls are supposed to achieve really.

well not really optional. there is certain section where you need touchscreen like rubbing the map & solving puzzle.
but it make sense since most of puzzle is better to use touchscreen.

the action like aiming and climbing is completely optional

I think the rear touch will be great as your fingers are already placed so close to it. So during frantic sections of games it’ll be quick and easy and will probably feel very natural after a while. The front screen can be reserved for slower parts where taking one of your hands away from the analogue stick won’t cause major problems. I like the way this is shaping up. Too many luddites these days. I say bring on the touch controls, just make sure they’re considered and add to the experience rather than just add a bullet point to the back of the box.
