CVG gets relaunch, colour change, becomes “first stop for 24/7 global gaming news”
Following the reimagining of Edge’s brand earlier today, Future’s relaunched CVG into a blog-style design with a red header. You can take a look for yourself here. Editor Tim Ingham’s said the design is a step in creating “the best gaming news site in the world, built around our core offerings of news, media, comment and community all served up with a healthy dose of cheeky, irreverent humour.”
The site is now apparently updated 24 hours per day, including news from Australia. New features include a widescreen media player and a “Most Popular box”.

Reading into the changes, it seems as if everyone wants to be like VG247…:D

CVG has been a load of old rubbish for along time. The new design looks pretty crap. Not exactly inviting to look at. Just huge blocks of text. Where the imagery? I’ll still be coming here for my gaming news

Looks crappy. VG247 and Joystiq is actually all I need to stay updated anyway.

Seems like alot of gaming news sites are taking to the blog style approach. They’re all stealing your look Pat

My eyes are burning thanks to the CVG redesign. It’s also very messy to scroll through.

Looks cheap.. They should have kept the old design and replaced the old comment system with a VG247 style comment system. Because the old one was just horrible to work with imo.

Well, it’s not nearly as hideous as the last design. It is a bit ‘red’ though, and I’d have preferred it if they’d taken the opportunity to lose the Facebook moron gallery. It appears to be “all headlines”, though – a sea of bold so nothing actually stands out.

The actual content pages look much better than before, although the red is quite glaring. Would’ve been nicer to use a slightly less fierce shade.

Ever since I discovered VG247 I always go to this site (and kotaku.com) for my gaming news. it’s up to date and a good source for information. I don’t want something else anymore. I don’t see what the other one can offer better?

Hey hey, that’s not right. How can they steal your domain like this… That’s not right.. I mean, Pat should have thought about it and bought it but darn, these guys are cheap over there. And I’m responding to Joe’s post.

I think it looks pretty good, if a bit cluttered toward the bottom.
That sucks about the .co.uk though! I think Pat should do a Sony on ‘em.

Hey Pat what can you do about it? I think it truly sucks and shows that they’re all afraid of VG247….But you’ll bypass them, don’t worry.
Do you have Geohot’s number?

It’s certainly a dick move, but how come you didn’t reserve vg247.co.uk in the first place?

Always had some respect for CVG; Ingham, Robinson, Pankikis – they have some good writers there. They also always tried hard being up to date with news (I’d place them 4th behind vg247, EG and Joystiq)
BUT after seeing what is correctly described as a “dick move” above, a lot of that respect has fallen by the wayside. For shame, Future. For shame.
On the redesign, while I’d say they really needed to de-clutter the previous site, unfortunately this new one is hella of a lot more generic (looks like it could be any other gaming site in the world really) and seriously, what is up with all that red? Bad move all in all, imo.

I’m going to say nothing about this other than we’re taking legal advice.
