Friday, 27th May 2011 20:08 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

PWNED has released a behind-the-scenes look Battlefield 3, specifically the Frostbite 2 engine and the Back to Karkland map pack.

Posted below, the video also revisits Battlefield 2′s Strike at Karkand and chats with Niklas Fegreaus, the lead designer on Back to Karkand and David Spinnier, one of the original map designers on BF2.

Lead weapons designer, Alan Kertz also discusses the Physical Warfare Pack while creative director Lars Gustavsson takes you on a tour of the series’ design history.

Battlefield 3 is out on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this fall, and EA will be showing it off at E3 next month.

Thanks, minxamo.

    By the way, that engine is not only impressive and blah.. blah.. blah… but it’s proprietary resolution is also 2560×1600
    There is no upscaling. If someone have monitor that supports this resolution, you will get the best out of it. I like that.

  5. Maximum Payne

    Real question is: Why you Erth don’t have monitor with that resolution? :D

  6. Erthazus

    @5, i have it. I bought it like 3 months ago. It’s DELL and it’s sexy.

    Sold my 24 inch Samsung BX2431 (amazing monitor) to buy that new one.

    @6 How much did it cost you? I’m looking into getting a new monitor since I’m using a monitor that’s 6 years old and in 4:3 :P

    Was a little hard to tell where the advertisement stopped and the actual show began. The large amount of soft ball questions being lobbed at the developers clouded the interview a bitt but still interesting to see more of BF3.

    @9, Dell monitors are actually really good (the ones they sell stand alone, not necessarily the ones they ship with their machines :p ), therefore really expensive :(

  13. jacobvandy

    @9 30″ 2560×1600 = $1500

    @13, you can get cheaper. I have Dell U2711. It cost me 800$+

    @9 depends on what you want. If you want Full HD i suggest you go with BX2431 Samsung.

    If you want to have 2560×1600 resolution. Expect a price within 600$+

    this is my monitor: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2711-27-inch-Widescreen/dp/B0039648BO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306532201&sr=8-1

    it’s amazing.

    Oh my bloody gosh, I am pumped for this like it’s a HL3 anouncement! ^_^’
    @Steph: could you be so nice and embed the HQ vids from youtube for the future. Nobody wants to watch the lower quality, when we are talking about graphics, or does somebody?! And btw: that Karkland/Kirkland/Karkand is a running gag on this site, isn’t it? o_O

    BTW, this demo wasn’t even rendered using full settings. They haven’t been able to build a computer to run max settings yet lol.

    Gosh, that video sucked. I’ve rarely seen such a lame channel as “Pwned”. Also some DICE guys look like incredible hipsters, however as long as they do their job good, I don’t care.

    @11
    Hey, she’s mine!

    @14
    Yep! I’ve got the same monitor as Erthazus. I absolutely love it; the picture quality is to die for. Definitely agree with the recommendation.

    @22: true…but that female REALLY IS horrible. fake smile all the way. puke.

    G3 is my fave weapon in bfbc2 – i really checked it out first after many hours in the game after unlocking most stuff. now it´s my most used weapon. it´s a plus that it´s available for all classes too. glad the weapon designer says the g3 is his fave weapon in bf3…this makes me even more excited. but a mp5 would be nice as well…and GLOCKS!!! – there were some on the table so i´m sure they´re in.

    I sit at a desk. So within a couple feet of the monitor.

    Isn’t it grand?!

    I’ve got a 24 inch desktop monitor and even that feels small to me now. 27 inch sounds just about the right size for a PC monitor if you ask me.

    How is this supposed to run on consoles?

    #27 3 years ago
  28. Schindet Nemo

    @ 27

    By reducing the amount of max players to 24 and letting them play on downscaled maps I assume.

    #28 3 years ago
  29. Erthazus

    @27,

    reducing amount of players from 64 to 24
    smaller maps
    reducing resolution from 2560×1600/1080p to 720p with 25-30 fps
    Strip all direct X10-11 effects
    reduce SSAO, anti aliasing, Depth of field, UBERsampling.
    Highest texture downscaling

    done and done. Easy as pie.

  30. Dralen

    @27 You underestimate the power of sitting 7 feet away from your screen :P.

    #30 3 years ago
  31. Maximum Payne

    @30 But when you are on net you get closer ?

    #31 3 years ago
  32. Dralen

    Depends on the size of your screen doesn’t it. It was a joke though, except it wasn’t really. Plus the graphics are never usually as good online (On Consoles), COD: Black Ops is a brilliant example of that.

  33. Maximum Payne

    @32 I dont know what do you want to say :D but I was talking now when you are on VG and surfing you come closer to monitor ?
