Codemasters website hacked

Joining the sudden trend for external intrusions, venerable UK developer Codemasters has reported a hacking attempt on its website.

“On Friday 20th, there was an attempt to gain administrative access to the Codemasters.com website. This admin access may have allowed alterations to our company website,” a representative told GamesIndustry.

Luckily, the breach was noticed quickly, and Codies took down its website for a few hours to close the security hole.

The hackers got away with some staff usernames, but all password were encrypted.

Codemasters says the attack has prompted a review of all the developer’s websites and networks.

“Especially as many games companies have been popular targets for this sort of activity recently,” the statement noted.

Square Enix announced the possible compromise of 25,000 email addresses after its Deus Ex website was hacked, while the consequences of an attack on Sony in mid-April are still felt.

What is wrong with companies getting hacked left and right these days.
It’s like World War 3 in here.

Companies get hacked all the time. It isn’t unusual. Its just the fact that Sony had an attack that all of the news sites are reporting any leak of data as a “hack”.

For all we know, this could be a disgruntled employee with admin access.
