Rockstar confirms PS3-exclusive content for LA Noire

Wednesday, 13 April 2011 14:38 GMT By Patrick Garratt

Rockstar has said that it’s to soon make an announcement regarding exclusive content for the PS3 version of LA Noire.

Speaking this comment thread, the company confirmed rumours the PS3 version will have its own content, saying to, “Look for more details on that, coming soon.”

Box art and retailer listings have been spotted this week carrying “exclusive content” badges, as you can see on RockstarNetwork.

One says that the “Consul’s Car Traffic Chase” mission is “only on PlayStation 3.”

L.A. Noire releases for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 17.

    So now we’ve got system-specific bits of game on top of pre-order-specific bits of game. Is there actually any game left in the standard package or is it basically just a menu and credits?

    Great.

    Shitty PS3 version confirmed. Thats exactly what happened with the Ps3 version of Red Dead Redemption.

    Xbox 360 had the best visuals and performance (720p, 30 fps), while Ps3 version was SHIT and SUB-HD (with some locations that run lower then 30 fps), less grass details with crappy exclusive costume stuff.

    Fantastic news.

    @7

    As far as the retailer specific dlc goes it will be released later for everyone else later. SO eventually we all will have that as far as the other stuff its probably just fluff.

    Reason why there is exclusive content is because of the back room deals usually and making a game especially a game like this one that has been delayed 3 times(?) Its not cheap and needs to make up the money invested. Not saying its a good or bad thing but at least R* has released all that exclusive content at one point or another unlike most developers.

    @8

    “Xbox 360 had the best visuals and performance, while Ps3 version was SHIT and SUB-HD (with some locations that run lower then 30 fps per second) with crappy exclusive costume stuff.”

    Uh both versions of the game ran at 30 FPS so QQ some MOAR. LA Noire was originally going to be made for just the PS3 and then mid development they went Xbox 360.

    Without stronger numbers to support the performance section, we believe both consoles ran at around 30 frames a second with almost no screen tearing, and some small frame drops.

    @11, “LA Noire was originally going to be made for just the PS3 and then mid development they went Xbox 360.” that’s common knowledge, no link should be needed for something like that ;) – An imbecile who only uses wikipedia for sources would know that asx it is it’s first sentence.

    Also, I’ve played both versions & the differences are incredibly small. I’m sorry if the occasional odd looking weed ruins a game for you, so sad ;)

    @17, i played both versions and i believe my eyes more then Lens of Truth. I don’t read shit (i showed you videos that show performance and visuals) and 360 had no problem with frame rate or whatsoever (+ it had a much better looking game)

    and it’s going to be the same like with MAFIA II, GTA 4 or … LA.Noir. Fact is PS3 can’t take sandbox environment much with such crappy GPU and memory. It’s a FACT. F A C T !

    So i expect really crappy environment and sub-HD. So much for 1080p console, haha :D

    @19, thanks Captain Obvious. If it is not exclusive for PS3 that day, that does not mean that port and pre-production started for 360 much earlier with this announcement.
    As i said before, you know nothing about production of LA Noir, same as i don’t know nothing about it. But saying things like: Xbox 360 is a Port for 100% is stupid because no one knows about it except for publisher and team bondi.

    I just know that free exclusive stuff from Rockstar mean that something is not right with the PS3 version and we will see whats wrong with it. I smell bullshit all over the place like with all sandbox games on PS3

    The ‘ransoming’ of bits of actual game content prior to the game’s release makes me somewhat uncomfortable. When it was costumes and guns and whatnot – no problem, those things didn’t really affect the game anyway.

    But now we’re getting to the stage where they’re taking bits of the game out prior to release and only allowing you to have them if you buy from this particular store and on this particular platform. And maybe that stuff will be available later (for extra money, no doubt) to everyone else, or maybe it won’t – you have no way of knowing.

    I suppose in theory it’s no worse than having an exclusive bit of DLC, but it doesn’t feel that way, it just feels like a set of cheap marketing stunts that benefit nobody in the long run.

    I don’t count it idiot, my eyes start to hurt when frame rates start to show some problems. It’s obvious for any human out there. You don’t need to be a genius to tell frame drops.

    @22, thanks captain obvious, no one knew that. but did they said that they developed it for PS3 from the start? NO.

    you know nothing about LA.NOIR production. They could (and obviously) started developing before this announcement, don’t you think?
    If not, think about it for a bit.

    @23

    I agree with you its a very cheap tactic maybe publishers should look into giving physical good to specific store instead of virtual goods especially missions and actual weapons. If you want to do costume or weapons whatever no skin off my nose but actual missions is a dick move.

  27. onlineatron

    Wasn’t the game a PS3 exclusive when initially announced? I heard that Sony played quite a hefty fee, aiding the development of the game; but then Rockstar wanted it multiplatform. Sony let them out of the deal in return for having ‘Agent’ as an exclusive. Perhaps this is to do with that as well?

    All hearsay of course.

    All the footage shown in the trailers, so far, has been PS3 footage, so I doubt the version will be graphically inferior.

    As Blerk said on his Twitter: With pre-order bonuses, and platform exclusive content… Is there a way to get the full game!?

    #27 4 years ago
  28. Christopher Jack

    @25, It was originally financed by Sony for $20mil but was dumped & later picked up by R* & Sony allowed them to continue in exchange R* would have to make it an exclusive, apparantelly R* discontinued that deal & instead offered up Agent in exchange as an exclusive for L.A. Noire becoming a multiplat game.
    *EDIT* lol, onlineatron beat me to it :)

    @Phoenixblight,
    “First announced in 2005″

    does not mean that they started developing this title. there was obviously concept team that designed the game from the ground up. Motion capture studio, writers and etc.

    @DrDamn, thats true. I know about that. But when they started developing it, that does not mean that when they had a partnership they developed the game for PS#.

    I mean, first of all there is a concept team that creates design of the game and etc. I’m sure that they started developing it only 1 year ago before the announcement that they are going to release it on the 360.

    Anyway, soon is going to be the games release and we will find out the truth behind it.

    The first tech video I saw of this game BLEW-MY-MIND, but after seeing some of the more recent video’s; the quality doesn’t look as good. The resolution looks lower and the facial animations (massively important in the game!) look less defined; making it harder to recognise them. However, I am sure Rockstar will do a fine job with this game, because they always do.

    I’m pretty sure the difference with Red Dead over this was that the PS3 was not the leading platform, whereas L.A. Noire is, which led to some missing foliage and framerate drops.

    This article pretty much confirms you will be getting the best experience on the PS3 version.

    I will be picking this one on PS3, mainly due this game started as a ps3 and then ported to 360, therefore it should be better on that console, unless reviews says otherwise i will be picking it on ps3.

  40. Noodlemanny

    I’m so tried of everyone b**chin at each other on this site. You all call each other fan boys but really your just as bad as each other.

    As for the stuff you’ve been going crazy about. L.A. Noire as been in development hell for around 5 years. Theres no way that what was started in 2005 is anything like what it is now, which means that anything that used to be a PS3 exclusive is something entirely different now. The only similarities are a name and some concepts. So what I’m saying is that the game that’s coming out probably was never suppost to be a PS3 exclusive so the whole argument is invalid and pointless.

    #40 4 years ago
  41. Xuchilbara

    Since every video I have seen of gameplay has been recorded on the PS3 version, it is obvious that is their development console of choice. Mixed in with the fact that this was originally going to be a PS3 exclusive and now has exclusive content… It should be a no brainer as to what console to get this game on. Also….

    STOP RESPONDING TO ERTHAZUS FUCK…. It’s not that hard to get him to stop talking, everyone stop feeding him, and eventually he will go away. Like a lost / homeless cat. If you never feed it, it wont stick around.

    To clarify something on the dribbling babble that seems to permiate posts on this site, this actually seems like one worth answering. L.A. Noire was originally a product that was gonna be published by Sony, so at one point this was a PS3 exclusive, but Sony dropped the project due to its cost, but in ended up getting picked up by RockStar, which is probably why it’s a multiple platform game now. As far as on why the game’s getting exclusvie content for the PS3 version, it probably is the lead console in development for this because all the gameplay footage that’s been shown off for this has been PS3 footage (and I mean gameplay, not the cinematic trailers). Also, if you look into the developer’s history, Team Bondi’s a developer made up of ex Sony Europe people (the guy who runs it created The Getaway franchise), they just went with what platform was comfortable and familiar to them.
    I can’t wait to play the mission, as well as this game, on my PS3.

    #46 4 years ago
  47. bluffbluff03

    @ 2 Yeah, but I thought Rockstar said that the L.A. Noire DLCs would be more ” additional mission-style” like in Mafia 2. I think there was also one exclusive for PS3. I owned my 360 for the two GTA4 DLC wich were better than some game released the same year….it was a shame for sony that the PS3-version was released one year after…but now i´am glad that i have 360 AND PS3. But I will still buy the 360 version because I dont think that there will be much exclusives as LA Noire is not develloped by Rockstar…and lots of previews wrote about the 360 version of beeing the better version.

    Additionally: LA Noire was from the beginning confirmed for PS3 & 360…

    Here I go, I will make another comment making you look like retard, only for you to be an embarressed little shit and not have the balls to reply. Similar to the many times I have made you look like a complete dead shit with your constant Crysis PC tard comments you always make.

    I know not one but two people who worked for team bondi, its not even that hard to fathom that I do. One of them is now working in Canberra on XCOM. Yes 2K Australia, the other is now a teacher and Games design College, both of them said development before Rockstar took over was completely shit, as the managers are idiots. You know, the kind of idiot you see in the mirror every day Etharzus.

    My point is, this game has been in production for years on PS3, WAAAAAY before the 360 version even existed.

    In every demo shown, its running on PS3 hardware.

    No only DOES it look better, and I can comfirm it does, but it will also have exclusive content, as Sony has already payed millions for its developement.

    Nice youtube links.

    Faggot.

    Get a life, and get some facts, stop spewing your bullshit on these websites, god I wish you were banned.

    This game has been in development since nearly 2005, The almost in fact took up QANTM college students as QA testers in 2007 for fuck sake. Do you think they just made cutting edge technology in a fuckin year?

    Dumb ass!

    i like the idea of dlc. it can refresh a game sometimes. BUT the pricing is just not fair most of the time. dlc for a story focused game is tricky anyway imo. i pay and download dlc – play through it and then it slowly rots on my hd and i can´t sell it for obvious reasons. i usually don´t play through story driven games several times. i only decide to download stuff if there is replay value. like bfbc vietnam for example…the dlc exclusivity is a serious pain in the ass though. criminal it is.

    ^ This isnt DLC, its on the disc, just like it was with RDR on PS3.

    @46 Yeah, same.

    LA Noire has done a lot of trailers without ever really showing the gameplay. I like the premise, and I’m sure it’s going to be Rockstar standard and everything, but if they aren’t going to show how the game plays, then I’m not gonna put money down until it’s out and the verdict is in.
