EA “did not kill” Mirror’s Edge, says Gibeau

Wednesday, 2nd March 2011 16:30 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Just in case you weren’t sure before that EA didn’t properly can Mirror’s Edge instead of putting it on hold, EA Games boss Frank Gibeau has said the company didn’t “kill” the franchise.

Speaking to CVG, Gibeau said it was just looking at ways on how to bring back the series.

“We’re just trying to figure out how to bring Mirror’s Edge back and in what way. That’s part of the creative development process,” he said.

“I know there are some stories about how EA killed Mirror’s Edge. Well, I’m the guy; I greenlight the games. I did not kill it – as God is my witness.

“What we said internally is: ‘What do we need to do to make [a sequel] a hit?’ We need to go from version one to version two so that it sells two to three times as many, it finds a much bigger audience. The first game from a quality standpoint was good, but now it needs to be great.”

A Mirror’s Edge sequel was confirmed back in 2009, but reports emerged recently that the game was put on hold at DICE. EA said that the IP remained “an important franchise” despite the first game not doing as well as intended.
