DC Universe Online gets first TV Spot

SOE’s aired the US TV commercial for imminent PS3 and PC MMO, DC Universe Online.
In the video we see DC’s finest take on a world of villains, before being promised that “the next legend is you”.
There’s a picture of a Collector’s Edition at the end of the video, although European’s are out of luck: this is only available in the US and Canada.
DC Universe Online is released in the US on January 11 and the UK on January 14.
Check out the video below.

I am the only one who thinks this will be a FFXIV kind of flop?

@1 Have to admit when I played in the beta I didn’t really see the appeal.

@4 maybe its just me then, I never really enjoyed it. I will give it another chance though, also since its a MMO it will get better and better I’m sure.

If I had time to play this game I would gladly buy and pay the $15 monthly fee,but I can only play it on weekends so that’s a no… shame, I want it =(

It’s going to be a very niche MMO game. I don’t see it as a next Sony’s Everquest game.
and are there a lot of DC Universe fans to get excited about this? I doubt that.
Sony how about a new EVERQUEST III or some Planetside II? Or you are that bad in MMO space after Matrix, Star Wars:galaxies disaster?

This games really good, although my experience in mmo’s are few. This one is very appealing and I’m doing the math for the sub fee if it will even out for me with my hulu netflix this and of course. Other bills..
I. Definetly give this game a thumbs up from what I’ve played though

I thought the beta was really cool to be honest. I think it’s going to get a decent audience.

@3: I played the beta but I was dismayed by it, to be honest. It made Champions Online look as complex as a German RPG – which is just another way of saying that it’s incredibly shallow. They managed to take the Champions Online formula, take away any depth, and then add the everyday MMORPG milktoast of grinding for visual upgrades to it.
I felt it was pretty dire. All the ‘good’ I’ve heard so far seems to be people being fooled by visual parlour tricks, along the lines of people gawking at the admittedly shiny graphics. Of course, that novelty is going to wear off quick. I’m just faster at seeing through flashy graphics than the vast majority… I think? I mean, it seems that way.
By my estimate, give it one month after release and DCUO will be empty. I doubt it’ll even take that long for the novelty to wear off. The content is fairly thin, the game is shallow, it’s not designed to create a community (very few community tools present), and there’s just nothing to keep people there.
Right now, it’s shiny and new… people buy into shiny and new. But let’s see if I’m not right in a little while. Going to stick with my MMORPG mainstays at the moment, things like Guild Wars, Istaria, and Champions Online, and the only thing that really interests me on the horizon is Guild Wars 2.

The graphics actually weren’t impressive for me, but the fluid combat was. Between combat and mixing in your powers gave it a lot of flare to me. and being able to change my characters appearance at all times was pretty sweet.
But, the combat and exploration of gotham and metropolise was sweet. I think it will. Be very lively my friends on my psn were having a blast

^ Yup I’m getting it. Beta was cool although I only think it will stand on the hardcore comic fans to keep this game alive. Hey at least its doing better than that Marvel MMO for 360
…..oops

I’ve played the beta. I was really excited about it the first day and by the end of the second day I had realized that it gonna be nothing but go get the mission, go kill everyone, go get another mission.
This game will hold on just like STO, IOW, just because of the franchise but the game itself is ass.

I really enjoyed the beta and am interested in this game, but I am not a fan of paying for online. And yes I know all MMOs have monthly fees thus why I never got into any.
I expect this game to get a quick price drop and when that happens I will grab the game and 3 month sub. The game doesn’t seem too deep so a 3 month run should be enough for me.
