Activision confirms NASCAR The Game 2011

Thursday, 30th September 2010 13:27 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Activision’s just formally announced NASCAR The Game 2011, to developed by UK-based developer Eutechnyx.

The game will release for PS3, 360 and Wii.

The news confirms what’s been known since last week, and will be the first game in the sport since EA Sports had the IP.

“It was crucial to take a fresh look at what makes the sport so popular,” said Eutechnyx EVP, Ed Martin.

“We’re working very closely with NASCAR, the drivers, the teams, the tracks and the sponsors to get all the minute details right, and give this game the polish and push the fans deserve.”

“The NASCAR videogame fanbase has been underserved for a long time and we’re bringing them something very special,” added David Oxford of Activision.

The game will allow you to either play as yourself or any real-life driver in NASCAR, while 22 tracks will also be in the game.

The cars, meanwhile, and the damage they pick up will be “meticulously detailed” with multi-car wrecks “the most extreme ever experienced in an officially licensed racing game.”

NASCAR 2011 also features online multiplayer, where 16 players will compete.

You’ll also be able to “earn NASCAR experience points” in online and offline races “which help unlock rewards such as decal packs or special car designs, as well as career sponsorships and special races throughout career mode.”

The first trailer for the game will air on US TV on Sunday morning.

The game’s out next February.

Interesting thing with this is that Eutechnyx were given the NASCAR lisence, not Activision. They are just acting as publishing partners I guess. Pretty big deal really.

@1 It’s not unheard of. I don’t know how NASCAR is run, but other American sports franchises are extremely selective with who they trust, which is obviously good news for the guy at Eutechnyx, since Activision probably paid him handsomely for that very reason.

Yep and WRC. They probably have a couple of F1 type cars in there too. I think Nascar is officially licensed but obviously not the comprehensive set of near identical ovals you’ll find here ;)

Nascar. What a heap of shite specifically designed for the low attention span of Americans. Cars going round and round in a circle; the drivers barely have to steer because of the suspension set up.

However, seeing as Eutechnyx are doing it it’s good news as far as I’m concerned, it should sell loads in the US and should be a success for a long established UK developer. If it’s one thing they know – it’s driving games.

Nascar truly is the lowest form of motorsport.

About the only less skilled racing event is banger racing, but at least that has the advantage of being fun!

@7 Actually not. I’m not a big fan of NASCAR, but very familiar with it. There are a lot of tracks that require you not just “round and round racing”. + Nascar is not about the strategy, it’s about how you can drive your car well, so you can avoid pit stop and other stuff.

Ever played Daytona USA? freakin awesome. A good example of what is Nascar.

I like cars and how they smash to each other, so keep up lagging.

@9 Actually yes. What you have to realise is that your opinion isn’t always right; in fact it rarely is. Every type of racing requires you drive your car well, in fact it’s pretty much a pre-requiste you crayon eating retard. Did nurse put your protective head brace on too tight again? Poor lamb.

Nascar is designed specifically so that Americans with attention spans of goldfish, can sit and shovel salty and sugary snacks into their bloated faces, while loud, poor handling vehicles as technically advanced as tractors roar past them constantly.

It is one of the lowest forms of motorsport. It’s right down there with drag racing and tractor pulling. I rate 24hr lawnmower racing more highly.

Oh and as for the lagging insult, it’s really not going anywhere mate. The funny thing is that due to your basic command of the English language, you have completely missed the fact that I have slag in my name – itself an insult in most developed countries. Keep trying ballsac. ;)
