PC Zone editor Steve Hogarty has confirmed that the magazine is to close following its next issue.

Hogarty contacted MCV to say he is no longer with the Future mag, having taken up a position at Gamereactor.eu last week.

The September issue will be the last.

RPS first reported the news this afternoon.

Staff have been informed of the decision.

PC Zone was first published in April 1993 by Dennis Publishing until its 2004 buy-out by Future Publishing.

And that’s that, then. Farewell, chaps.

Ticking timebomb since Future bought it. A damn shame. My favourite magazine ever from the mid-to-late nineties until the horrible Future purchase and subsequent re-design. It never re-captured its awesome.

For the record: It is still the best PC mag, and one of the best mags full stop, it just isn’t as good as it used to be.

I’ll always remember it fondly because it was the first place I came across the work of one Charlie Brooker.

I subscribed to the mag for years but it got really bad in 2008 with a revolving door of staff and next to no direction. It’s a shame that it never quite recovered from that. PC Gamer is good these days though, really good actually. The UK one I mean.

“In Norse mythology, Loki is a god or jötunn (or both). Loki’s relation with the gods varies by source. Loki assists the gods, and sometimes causes problems for them. Loki is a shape shifter and in separate incidents he appears in the form of a salmon and a mare. Loki’s positive relations with the gods ends with his role in engineering the death of the god Baldr. Loki is eventually bound by the gods with the entrails of one of his sons.”

Never liked that mag. I’ve always hated the slogan “Britain’s best PC mag” – how on earth can you prove that?

PC Gamer is ten times better.

The mag was not too bad, but I always favoured PC Gamer over most other pc magazines.
