SWTOR not being discussed for consoles, says BioWare

Friday, 2nd July 2010 15:58 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

BioWare’s Daniel Erickson has said Star Wars: The Old Republic’s not coming to consoles, and the possibility hasn’t been discussed.

According to the lead writer and designer, the interface for PC is “made for games”, and admitting told CVG he doesn’t know if it’s possible to put SWTOR on consoles.

“I have no idea if it’s possible,” Erickson said of a console version. “I’d have to ask our tech director.

“I can tell you that it’s not anything that we’ve even discussed. There is nobody anywhere in Bioware laying the groundwork for that because we have a very large complicated game to ship first.

“We all know the drawbacks of PC. We all scream at our boxes and try to make stuff work. But at the same time, the interface is made for games. The mouse/keyboard interface allows so much less restriction [than console]“.

During the same interview, Erickson told CVG that when starting work on SWTOR, or any game at BioWare, there’s “no question” that the lead platform will be PC.

“It’s a natural place to be,” he said.

SWTOR is slated for spring 2011.

i applaud them for this :) even tho im a PS3 player myself.
it shows that there just trying to make a great game instead of make money.
no doubt they would have much more sales if the ported it onto consoles but it would mean, as he said, restricting the game

MMORPG games is the only reson to game on a Pc today I think, but since World of Warcraft came all the mmorpg games that have been released since have been utter shit.

SWOTR look’s good, but not good enugh to drag me away from the PS3 and X360. It’s just so more fun playing games instead of tweeking and making games actualy WORK on a Pc.

But then again SWOTR look’s like it’s having the same Cartoon Network gfx like World of Warcraft so you prob dont need a monster to run it…

@5 Do you at least know what is PC gaming and what games there are? I think not.

Graphics and MB RAM also depends because of Raids. More people, more lag.

@6 Been gaming on Pc since Dos was the bomb. So yeah I know Pc gaming….

EDIT: And you do know that lag has nothing to do with graphics or RAM right? ;)

You are an idiot have you seen the graphics? And the devs have stated that the game will work with computer 4-5 years old so yes it still uses “old tech”

@7 Actually lag is also because of Ram and graphics card.
Depending on your internet connection you can play with your friends without a lag.

I had old PC when i played WOW for example but not so much of a PC at that time: 512 MB Ram and Geforce 4 with 1 2.8 GHZ core.
Even if i had good internet connection, i had serious lags in Raids and to play them i always removed effects and e.t.c.
Depending on your RIG it depends on how will you will lag in RAids, because 25+ or 40+ people is a big push for a PC that will run dozens of effects.

PS: + i’m not asking about DOS years, i’m asking about now, your comment was like: PC gaming? What is that? Uhm!

What you are describing have nothing to do with lag, dont worry this is something many get wrong.

Lag is problems with the internet conection that results in the game starting to have problems showing what other players are doing to put it realy simple.

What you are describing is lack in hardware when alot is happening on the screen. And can be fixed by scaling down the gfx or upgrading in better hardware.
