Sonic Adventure for XBLA and PSN stuck in 4:3 aspect ratio

It’s being reported that the XBLA and PSN versions of Sonic Adventure do not venture out of its 4:3 aspect ratio.

Joystiq, reporting from the E3 show floor, said the game displays only in 4:3, with vertical bars surrounding the sides of a widescreen display.

Sega also confirmed to the site that it was unable to alter the code for Sonic Adventure.

The company’s’ other Dreamcast title, Crazy Taxi, will support full resolution, although the original soundtrack and the branded stores have been replaced with generic music and brands due to licensing issues.

Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi are due for release later this year.

How can Sega claim they weren’t able to alter the Sonic Adventure code? They’re releasing the Director’s Cut version of the game and that was never released on the Dreamcast.

I have my suspicions about these games being from the Dreamcast at all, as they were both released for the PC. It would be a lot easier for them to port the PC versions than to write a DC emulator… If the next game they release is Sega Rally 2 we’ll know they’re just porting Windows games.

Who cares if it’s 4:3? It’s till a good game.
