Syfy announces two-hour Red Faction movie, leaves “back door” open for full TV series

redfactioniii6

Did you care about Red Faction’s plot or characters? No? Neither did we.

But evidently, someone did. And that one person just happened to be a Syfy network TV executive.

THQ and Syfy have hammered out a deal that calls for a two-hour Red Faction movie – straight to television, obviously. The film – which, if there’s any justice in the world, will star Jason Statham – is to serve as a “backdoor pilot” for a potential Red Faction TV series.

“It is the kind of content that fits our genre,” Alan Seiffert, senior VP of Syfy Ventures, told Broadcasting & Cable. “It is a great fit for a big Syfy Saturday movie, and if it really works, it is a great back-door pilot.”

As part of the deal, Syfy will also be lending a hand on the next Red Faction game, which is scheduled to be unveiled at this year’s E3. For obvious reasons, we hope Syfy’s creative input does not extend to the game’s title.

Because good games = good developers = actually caring about their ‘game to movie’ not sucking balls XD

Oh yes, Jason Statham would be *perfect*! But surely they’ve made this before, or does nobody remember Total Recall anymore?

I like the idea of TV series based off video games. I can imagine a Fallout TV series where its just based in the universe but dosnt follow any of the games plots, so you could actually say its all cannon but happening in a different location/date.

The problem with movie ones we’ve seen till now is that they dont want to be apart of the games universe or really even be related to the games. Just pick up the title, some names then make off with it.

Now if they could only get Joss Whedon to direct it, and after 4 episodes have it turn into Firefly.
