Duke Nukem: Forever gets leaked footage, screens

Imagine, you could have been playing this by late spring/early summer at the latest if it had gone Gold on Thursday. But you aren’t, so watch some new DNF footage instead.
The new clip and screens were leaked over the weekend. It only shows what could have been, sadly.
Watch the video below, with the screens over on AGB.
The game was supposedly canned last year after ten years in development, after developer 3D Realms shut up shop.
But hints from voice actor John St. John dating back to January insinuate the project is, indeed, still alive.
Take Two’s suing 3DR to claim back $12 million in development costs in Forever, as well as continually delaying the game various times over its ten-year development period.

Thats actually bad. They started this on the ID TECH 3 engine.
It looks horrible, even in prototype stage.

Just make it DLC…put it on XBL and PSN in sections and price it cheap and tons of ppl will buy it just because of who it is…Simple…and they get a little money in return..not enough but pocket change.

Remember Duke 3D? It never did have the most complex of level layouts, and hey, they added puzzles for Forever. With mod support, you might even find there’s a D3D:F that appears! Maybe that’s more what you’re looking for. It’s more Duke Nukem, and that’s what people have been waiting for.
There’s no call for analysing, intellectualisation or any of that, it’s just : have gun, rockets, freeze ray, pipe bombs, wear silly gloves, make crude comments, and go save the world from alien scum.
Space Invaders of our decade.

That seems to confirm that rather than 10 years of continuous development the rumours that they kept throwing away what they had and restarting on various new engines are true. Apparently the lead designer couldn’t settle on a final design to develop to, he kept changing it every time a game released with a feature he liked and wanted to add.
Imagine building a house where the blue-prints keep changing hugely on a regular basis – madness.
Shame though, could have been fun in a silly old-school way but you just can’t develop like that. It’s nuts. They should have stuck with the design at a certain point and just finished it.

Tells you a lot about 3D Realms that they didn’t change a spot of gameplay. Those gags look like they could’ve been in the old Duke.
@11 I agree, Duke shouldn’t be complex, but it should be fun, and making the same game you did 15 years ago, ain’t. The fact that your game is silly doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. It wouldn’t take a lot either, just add loads of hilarious scripted events.

Duke3D was really awesome back in the days. people were still playing it even in 99-2000, the single player was really fun and hillarious.

Game looks like loads of fun to me.
First DN I played was the demo of the recent XBLA release, and I was surprised at how much I was enjoying it.
I might even get the full version…

I still want DNF to be released. If it’s even half as fun as Duke3D it should be excellent.
