Report: IO drops 35 staff

kane&lynch

Computerworld.dk’s reporting that’s IO’s dropped 35 staff.

“We are sorry to have to say goodbye to employees, but it is a natural process when working in a project[-based] organization,” Niels Jorgensen, general manager at the studio.

It’s unknown how many people were let go. The redundancies were made last Thursday.

The studio’s currently working on Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. Prior to the layoffs, IO’s headcount stood at 200 employees.

IO Interactive was founded in 1998 and acquired by Eidos in 2004.

Square Enix acquired Eidos in 2009.

Thanks, Gama.

Why would IO drop staff after a game they didn’t make ships? Surely the site means Kane and Lynch 2? maybe?

You should have just made up some stuff about IO staff being drafted in to finish work on a game their parent company was publishing, Pat. It’s not like any other blogs would have checked the facts, they’d just have reworded your story.

If a broken, unfinished mess like Kane and Lynch is what IO does with 200 guys, I dread what the sequel will be like after this.

And why would you even make a sequel to a broken, unfinished mess? Is it about the movie rights?

Probably. Its funny so many people seem to have high hopes for the sequel. Did they not learn from Army of Two? Sure the sequel to that was better but still pretty lame.

To be fair to IO they are a very talented game developer, the Army of two guys on the other hand are not.

@DeSpiritusBellum: unfinished in what way? The game is quite long in this day and age of short campaigns… 6-8 hours and was quite/midly entertaining in the gunplay department ( in Graw/Vegas veins ), on top had a great cinemathographic quality that blows shit like heavy rain characters out of the water.

pretty decent stuff deserves a sequel.

I’d imagine they were art and code staff? I hope that they can quickly find work at other studio’s, it’s a crime to have talent wasted.
