Mark Rein has told VG247 that it’s too early to say if Epic plans on utilizing the motion controllers from Microsoft or Sony in any of its games.
Speaking to us at GDC, Rein said that while it is not making any games for the controllers at the moment, it is indirectly involved due to some the games created for them utilizing Unreal Engine 3.
“Right now, it’s too early to say if we plan on using the motion controllers in any of our games,” said Rein.
“There’s a bunch of developers making games for Move that use our engine, so clearing it’s kind of happening. Obviously, Microsoft’s making Natal games with Unreal, so, we’re involved with the technology whether we’re directly making something for the controllers or not.
“But, it’s too early to say what we’re going to do with them.”
Sony announced on March 11 at its GDC press event that SOCOM 4 would utilize Move, as well as the subcontroller, proving that shooters, like Wii’s Modern Warfare: Reflex and others before it, can be played using something other than a standard controller.
However, on a personal level, Rein prefers the old fashioned way.
“I don’t know, I’m pretty happy with the DualShock,” he said.
Rein also told us at GDC that loads of games for Move were created using Unreal 3, same with Natal, and games using Epic’s engine would be on hand at E3.
