Modern Warfare 2 wins GOTY at Danish Game Awards

Last night, the first ever Danish Game Awards were held in Copenhagen and the big winner of the night was Modern Warfare 2, getting two awards.

One for Game of the Year, and another for Best Action Game.

MW2 beat out GOTY nominees Assassin’s Creed II, Uncharted 2, and Dragon Age: Origins.

Here’s the full list of winners:

Game of the Year – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Sports Game – FIFA 10
Racing Game – Need for Speed: SHIFT
Platformer – New Super Mario Bros Wii
Strategy – Empire: Total War
Social Game – Wii Sports Resort
Open Category – Dragon Age: Origins
Action Game – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Critic’s Prize – Batman: Arkham Asylum

IO Interactive also won an Danish developer award for Mini Ninjas.

Makes a change from Uncharted 2, even if I’d never give MW2 a GOTY myself – not that it’s bad, just that it’s not that great either particularly as it just feels like a map pack expansion for CoD4.

Nice to see Batman get the critics nod.

I haven’t felt the need to buy another game since I got this. I’m about (a measly) 200 hours into the MP, and like reask, I can see myself playing it for a good while yet.

Almost every other game this year will probably get played by the average gamer for about 5-20 hours, before being put back in the box until maybe a rainy Sunday afternoon some time in 2013.

And while the few thousand haters get bored of the FAIL pretenders of the likes of Op Flash, MAG, BF:BC2, MOH, et al, millions of people will probably still be putting many hours into MW2.

MW2 was an OK game with outdated old Quake 3 arena upgraded engine, with 5 hour stupid campaign that is not close to AC2, Uncharted 2 or Batman with stupid missions like: Run from one Burger king to another and shoot 50 soldiers

Multiplayer was decent even with few glitches and other stupid things.

Agreed with 3 and 4. It really didn’t offer anything new, so just because nobody except Infinity Ward is willing to make a competent MP shooter for consoles, we should give the same game GOTY 2 years later? And of course MWF in general barely rates a footnote in the PC annals of FPS.

@Giga: That’s probably correct (though I’d bet on EA’s wallet to take a nice run at it with MOH), but I think that says more about the sorry state of multiplayer shooters this gen. All cartoony, generic sci-fi, or gimmicky nonsense.

@No taste crowd – We have hot chicks and great beer, who needs taste? Secondly, it’s an “award show” for games, and you’re taking it seriously? Oh boy.. When has an award show ever been a yardstick for what’s great and what’s not? Award shows are bullshit wrapped in bullshit presented by professional bullshitters, everybody knows this.

I agree with the MW2 is great but nothing groundbreaking peeps, and like most sane people, I really enjoy it. It’s a very well balanced game that doesn’t waste a lot of your time, and pretty much always comes down to skill, which is a lot more than can be said for the competition.

I kinda miss the old Modern Warfare maps, although quite a few of them did suffer from some balancing issues.

mwf2 is a good game. but it´s far from being a great game, and definately not the game of the year! more like the overhype of the year really. it´s a very good shooter with fine gameplay mechanics, a very weak singleplayer, and a good mp with annoying overpowerd weapons, and sometimes very annoying airstrikes. there should be more options in the mp. i hate the airstrikes, even when i am the one who gets o use them…i just dont want to have them in every game i play. why can´t i create a match without them? the singleplayer really was something you forget about as soon as you´ve finished it…spec ops is nice but nothing that keeps me hooked. all in all a very average game, with solid gameplay.

To be fair Modern Warfare 2 online would be good if it had any of the following:

- Good Balance
- Good Map Design
- A well thought out unlock system
- Good netcode
- Gameplay reliant on skill and teamwork
- It stopped spawning players within 3 feet of other players/live grenades/inside airstrikes/on the same spot they died
- Any features whatsoever that make it stand out from the 100s of other equally generic FPS games.

MW2 is good fun, not GOTY in my opinion, though. Also, the game doesn’t take skill to win. Just great knowledge of the map and being able to spot the enemy first will get you a few wins.

I also did not think the sp was anything special and very short.
As it been for 6 year olds by another poster.
Well some of these 6 year olds are pretty good then.

I totally disagree about the winners. I’m a DANE, and no we are not weird, and i think that a lot of danes disagree too. I do not think that MW2 is the best game, there i strongly disagree. Just remember that it’s not every dane that voted, it’s some “smart people”
