Split/Second gets May release date, subtitle

Disney’s confirmed to NowGamer that Black Rock Hollywood racer Split/Second will release on May 21 in the UK.

The firm also the game will now be known as Split/Second: Velocity when it releases for PS3, 360 and PC.

Once Split/Second is out the door, Black Rock will still have plenty to do; the developer has a secret project in the works as confirmed to VG247 back in January by boss Tony Beckwith.

There you have it, kids. Get the pre-orders in.

Hmm… unnecessary subtitle is unnecessary. And a bit rubbish.

Isn’t there an unwritten rule that you only put a sub-heading on your game’s title when it’s a sequel? It really doesn’t make any sense to add it to a new IP.

In fact, I think it’s put me off buying. Is that shallow? Yes. Am I convinved that this will now be a worse game because of the name? Also, yes.

why have they plopped ‘Velocity’ on the end of the title, unless there’s other versions of the game coming out on wii or handheld’s

No, why is it Split *slash* Second in the first place? I always thought that was some stupid trendy decision by a committee. Now, it makes a tiny bit more sense, with the velocity extension. (Cars that accelerate to top speed quickly. since they’re bound to be shown on the box art. ;) )
