SCE to become PlayStation-only [Update]

Update: SCEE’s just sent VG247 a statement on the matter, saying the move is for SCEI only, and won’t affect any regional HQ like SCEE or SCEA.
“This is a rather complicated manoeuvre involving the legal entity SCEI in Japan,” a rep told us. “It has no effect on any regional HQ – ie. SCEA, SCEE etc are totally unaffected by this.”
Original Story: Sony’s announced it is to rebrand Sony Computer Entertainment to SNE Platform, or SNEP for short, before “absorbing” SNEP on April 1 and naming its PlayStation business SCE.
The news comes following the company’s decision to merge SCE and its mobiles and personal computers divisions last year, with SCE boss Kaz Hirai heading up the new segment. He will continue to lead SCE after the shift.
The move is effective as of April 1, 2010. The division has existed as Sony Computer Entertainment since the launch of the original PlayStation back in 1994.
We’ve fired off an email to SCEE to get more details on the move.
More from this Dow Jones report.

Do fucking what?
I can’t believe it! Aren’t the April fools jokes supposed to wait for April 1st? What on Earth prompted them to do that?

When you’re making losses do you really need to spend time and money changing names that do not matter?

So instead of calling them SCEE (or, ‘Ski’), we get to call them snep.
Snep… really?

Doesn’t look like a name change after all.

I’ve edited it. Unless I’ve got it completely wrong, “SCE” is now going to be just PlayStation brand products, and won’t include VAIO any more.

I’m confused. Really confused. So Sony Computer Entertainment is going to become Sony Network Entertainment but then the Playstation stuff is going to be separated out into a new brand called, erm, Sony Computer Entertainment.
So Playstation’s going to remain SCE then?

Everyone’s confused Sammy, innit.
BUT… unless we fucked up, then yes, SCE will be PlayStation-only again.
