November NPD – MS says it was the “best November ever” for 360

Microsoft seemed rather pleased with the NPD figures for November, citing the move of 819.5K units and calling it the “best-ever November in Xbox 360 history”, repeatedly.
The Seattle giant was also pleased with Modern Warfare 2 selling 4.2 million units on the console beating out the PS3 version by more than two-to-one.
It also brought up the fact that more than 5.2 million multiplayer hours on XBL were logged playing Modern Warfare 2 on the first day alone – which scrambles our brain to be honest.
Xbox 360 also led games sales in November, with four of the top ten console games with third party titles selling “more on Xbox 360 last month than on the other current generation platforms combined.”
Assassin’s Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2, and Dragon Age: Origins rounded out 360 versions on the NPD top ten and it was the company’s “best-ever November for game sales, reaching $514 million in total sales”.
Consumers also spent a whopping $838 million on 360 hardware, software and accessories, adding to the stellar month for Microsoft.

For software sales, yeah. But the 360 sold a little more last November (836k) so it’s certainly not for hardware.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess it’s easy to fixate on the hardware side of things, which is stupid really because it’s software which makes them money.

Per Twitter: (patrick) seybold – @aarongreenberg biggest month ever for 360? Didn’t sales go down 3% compared to Nov 08?
/grabs the popcorn and beer
EDIT: No drama, apparently, thank God.
Aaron Greenberg – @seybold Actually we had our biggest Nov ever & grew our share from 26% last Nov to 30% this Nov > PS3, but both had a lot to be proud of!

Oh why, why is he doing that?
I guess Sony will go back their “potential” meme now

I dunno. I wanted to put my virtual hand over his mouth the moment I saw it.

It’s crazy, even after a 90% increase in PS3 sales, the PS3 can’t beat the 360 which had a decline in sales, so he should really just shut up.
They’ve got FFXIII in a week to cheer them up anyway.

Remember this does cover the first two or three weeks after MS bricked a million 360s, a heavy proportion of which were in the US. That probably guaranteed another few hundreds of thousands of console purchases.

I love my PS3, I do. Really. But in the end this story just reflects the truth. More people own and play on xb360s. I don’t care what they say then, I think the PS3 makes a great second system. Or was that ‘possed to be the Wii? Hmm, oh well I don’t need sales numbers to tell me what to play!
Or do I?
Why do I have this sudden urge play Halo?
I don’t even like Halo. Really, I don’t.
I have an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Must be dinner, the wife never was too handy in the kitchen.
I think I will go sit down and play some xb360.
Sigh.

@Cort: I though all the angry pirates went out and bought PS3s though?
(For what it’s worth, as far as MS is concerned it wasn’t a million, but no-one is saying what it actually was)

Well done to Microsoft for getting through the online surge for MW2 without any problems or down time.
Those figures have just highlighted that point for me.

We dont even know Sonys data yet so how do you know the Ps3 cant beat the 360 Razor.
Edit it did in america by 100 thousand units, hmm intresting worldwide it wouldnt suprise if the Ps3 outsold the 360 though.
Oldergamer the Ps3 has outsold the 360 in amercia for the last 2 months so how do you work out that people want the 360 more? Plus in Japan the 360 is dead in the water and on equal footing in Europe where the 360 has had a year head start?

Hindle, the PS3 had a large price drop and a new hardware model, I would’ve been surprised if it *hadn’t* done well out of that.

Of course Retroid, Modern Warfare 2 is what propeled its sales though. People buying a Fps on a console that is basically known for Fps what a suprise there. When Gow 3, Gt 5, and FF13 come out things will get intresting.

360 did super well. Nice that they are a bit more neck and neck now.
I understand why people are surprised with 360>PS3. But really a lot more needs to be done, to fix all the fuck ups that have been made on Sony part. And on MS’s part, they deserve it all, there is clearly a lot of hard work going on over there.
PS3 sales are good enouh for me to not be concernd about losing support, so it’s all col.

You have to give Microsoft credit for the changes from the original Xbox to 360. They made huge improvements from one generation to the next in terms of what they offer. They really wanted to build a community around their system and it’s worked for them.

Nothing is going to be losing support this gen, it just doesn’t make financial sense to drop any of the platforms if you can avoid it.

Well this time last year, I genuinely wondered if I might have to get an Xbox to play The Last Guardian.

PT is very right. Loads of cash to be made in first, second, or thrid place really. For me it really boils down to exclusives. Be it Mario, Infamus, or Fable. Or whatever.
The things is, it is what it is. And we now do know what the PS3 did Hindle. Alot of the PS3-centric fans have this feeling that at some point the scales will tip and the PS3 will take over. I am not sure that is going to happen. If it does, now is the time. If it doesn’t happen over the next year, it won’t happen at all. In the end, I don’t think it matters. Games are big enough, biz wise, to support all three systems. PS3 may not win, but it isn’t going to die and fade away either.
