Riccitiello calls Sony motion controller “Gem”
John Riccitiello has apparently called Sony’s upcoming motion controller Gem, speaking at the UBS 37th Annual Global Media Conference yesterday.
“In the coming year, both Sony and Microsoft have announced new controllers. Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace,” he said, according to IGN.
Sony’s already blanked it: “No official name for the PlayStation motion controller has been announced,” said a rep.
Gem. Gem. Nice turn to it. It’s out next spring.

Gem…. I don’t like it.
Also, do you think Natal will be the final name for MS’s camera?
It seems like they stuck ‘project’ in front of it to test the name out but now everyone has gotten used to it, it will stick.

well if you look at my username you´ll notice i kind of like it…it´s better than i thought it would be. it´s a cool name for a glowing plastic bubble actually. there is something childish about it but thats not a bad thing actually ´cause most gamers are gamers because of the hidden child in them… i still don´t get it with the natal name. but right now i prefer the 360 over the ps3 though…let´s see what these nextgen controllers will be like. in the end the name wont count at all to make them any fun or fail.

The name Gem associated with that design immediately put images of sex toys in my head

“California Exotics Devon’s Private Pleasures”
Which makes me wonder, did they buy the vibrator to use on Devon’s rubbery bits?

I like how the vibrator is also a ‘dual-shock’.
