Silent Hill: Shattered Memories looks nuts-good

silenthillsm

Konami’s just upped a first proper video of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and it looks surprisingly awesome. Check it after the break.

This was described to us yesterday as “Wii’s Alan Wake” by a very frothy journalist. We’ve certainly seen a lot worse.

The game’s a “re-imagining” of the first Silent Hill. It’s launching in the US on December 8. Not sure when it’s arriving in Europe.

I like the music at least. As good as the game may be though, I bet the lore and atmosphere wont be up their with the original.

How so Hunam?

I am interested in the game. If/When I get a Wii I will get this. THink about getting it for the PSP not sure if it will have the same atmosphere though unless the PSP > Ps3 can display it properly with the music.

I’m still not entirely sure what to make of this. I think I’ll wait for the reviews before I get too hopeful.

The previews are giving it pretty good reviews of the demo shown in September. Climax just revamped the original Silent hill not removing the story at all just making the features more modern.

No, it really is a reimagining, not a straight port. The story’s quite different to the original.

I would think about getting this on the PSP but I don’t think survival horror really works on a small screen. You lose that sense of immersion. Then again… Wii graphics. Hmm.

It’s coming out on the PS2 also!

The original Silent Hill games had a weird atmosphere about them, one which it seems only Team Silent could make. It is worth pointing out I am one of the most hardcore of Silent Hill fanboys, I live for this stuff, I used to read everything about the games just to get every inkling of the story, the cult and the setting. The PSP one climax made wasn’t a disaster, it wasn’t good but it didn’t take a ceremonious dump on canon and mythology like Homecoming did.

I certainly think this is the best looking of the 3rd party ones and I’m glad they are going for a reboot as it wont harm the original series, but I’ve yet to see that they get Silent Hill over and above a generic horror setting.

I feel ya Hunam. But with two of the core people of the Team Silent leaving for other venues, Only option Konami has is using Climax to revamp the original. If this doesn’t pan out then Silent Hill is truly dead.

Climax didn’t do a bad job on Origins, for sure. It was a little ‘by the book’, almost cookie-cutter Silent Hill but I played it all the way through so it can’t have been that bad.

I just worry that this time they might’ve…. Wiied it a little too much.

This looks great, and i’m not even using the traditional cop out of ‘This looks great… for a Wii game’.

It actual makes me want to (along with NMH2 and SMG2) re-purchase a Wii.

Now Akira Yamoaka has left, I can’t really see any reason why it should continue. Sure he’s a shit producer, but his soundtracks are the best in the business, bar none.

This is one of few games that keeps my interest slightly above the “I don’t give a damn” line. The idea with the game changing depending on how you play it is facinating.

What the hell is with the skin-showing and over-sexualising of the female characters? It completely kills the atmosphere of what is such a mature series when you have so much T&A in your face.

Question: The bits where you’re running around, you’re fully in control there, right? Because this looks like a really cool control system to continue the series on with.

That’s one of the things that can change, isn’t it? Silent Hill ‘rejigs’ itself according to the psyche of the main character in all of the previous games. In this one it judges your personality and adjusts the game accordingly, including the attire of the characters. I seem to remember seeing some comparison screenies a while back of the same scene but with different personality profile results, one with a woman dressed as in the video, another with her much more covered up.

It will probably get poor sales on the Wii regardless of how good it is. Only games that sell on the wii the best are Nintendo’s own and party games.

“That’s one of the things that can change, isn’t it? Silent Hill ‘rejigs’ itself according to the psyche of the main character in all of the previous games.”

So if you lewd after all the female characters like a gross pervert, they’ll end up a lot more trampy? Huh, wouldn’t want to know the people who end up with that saved file… *laughs*

Interesting idea though. I’m definitely eyeing this title up as a purchase.
