Miyamoto: “I don’t think everything needs to be 3D”

All you kids today, with your high-res graphics and 3D gaming. You have it lucky.

Shigeru Miyamoto is against you whipper snappers, somewhat. He thinks everything shouldn’t necessarily be 3D.

“I don’t think everything needs to be 3D, or that just because we’re seeing more 2D games now, that everything’s going to shift back to 2D,” he said in an interview with Nintendo Power.

“Instead, I think that what’s going on is that people are realizing the benefits of a 3D game, and at the same time, remembering what the benefits of 2D games were,” he said. “When going 2D, you need the courage to not be so attached to visual appearance of the games and to really pursue the gameplay experience.”

Thanks, D’Toid.

I find it funny how Nintendo always go on about how they’re about the gameplay and not the visuals yet only a handful of games on Wii have gameplay you can consider “OK”. And even less you can say is “Good”.

2D died before its time. I’m kind of glad it’s making a bit of a comeback of late, although my favourite 2D game recently wasn’t one of yours, Shigsy. :-D

2D definitely still has a place today.

I think when the switch to 3D was made devs were shoe-horning 2D gameplay into a 3D world, now that so many advances have been made specifically taking advantage of what you can do in 3D some of those advances are making it back into 2D with great success.

Why do Destructoid (the fucking cunts) get to do interviews with Miyamoto and not VG247?
