September NPD – Wii Play bestselling game decade-to-date

Wii Play is the bestselling game so far in the US this decade, NPD said last night, with 11.1 million units moved.

Guitar Hero III and GTA: San Andreas are second and third respectively, with 10.3 million and 9.8 million units sold respectively.

    These are, of course, not the sales numbers for this year, but for this century (Jan. 2000 to Aug. 2009), as the first line of the Gamespot article mentions.

    I still think they shouldn’t count Wii Play into these things. Or at least give us the top 11 so we can remove it ourselves. :-)

    How would you treat Guitar Hero sales then Blerk? Remove the ones that had a piece of HW in the box?

    That’s not the same, though – you can’t use the guitar to play anything other than guitar games. I’d love to know how many people have even bothered to boot up the Wii Play disc more than once.

    I’m very surprised to not see Halo 3 in that list. Didn’t that game sell close to eight million copies in its first year?
