Lost Planet movie is “completely different from the game”

According to Capcom, the storyline for the movie based on Lost Planet will be “completely different from the game”.
“[There] probably [won't be] so much of a reference to this particular title [Lost Planet 2],” Lost Planet producer Jun Takeuchi told G4. “However, the only thing I know is those people working on the project that they love the world of Lost Planet.
“So, we know that they’re going to utilize that world, but as far as the story line goes, the movie is completely different from the game.”
David Hayter’s penning the screenplay, and Capcom’s Keiji Inafune has a hand in the project as well.
More over on D’toid.

I think Solid Snake is pretty free to do as he wants with the storyline really. Even if based on the original which had a proper story, except it was gibberish.

Typical Hollywood, take a what made a book, comic or game popular and change it.
…then wonder while it failed.

Story and characters were not what made Lost Planet popular, giant robots and shooty bang bang is what made LP popular.

Sure, but who knows if they’ll even go there? Hollywood has a sick history of taking what they want from great ideas and stories and leaving the rest behind. Movie makers think the need to show the movie goer something new but most gamers want to see the game they played fully realized on the screen. Take Modern Warfare for example, if they brought it to the screen, I’d want them to condense the first game and film it but Hollywood’s normal move would be to write something completely original and at that point they might as well have just made up their own property instead of just using the property’s name to attract viewers.

Considering how well Transformers is doing, I’d imagine that this is pretty much just going to be a similar heavily CG’d robot romp.
Hehehe, romp.

In other words, just like Resident Evil, it will suck.

Hmm, so it’s safe to assume it’s gonna suck. Thanks Capcom, now I can save my money to see a better movie. Yeyy!!
