Sony: Gran Turismo “only possible” on PSP and PSPgo
The spectre of ‘possibilities’ reared its ugly head again today, as Sony claimed that GT PSP, readying to launch tomorrow, could only work on its handheld offerings.
“Gran Turismo – only possible on PSP and PSPgo,” it says at the end of this video ad.
Is GT PSP impossible on other platforms? Do its 800 cars and 35 tracks prohibit it working elsewhere? In Sony we trust.
The game launches alongside PSPgo in the morning.

Sounds better than “iPhone? No chance.”

Which means we won’t be seeing a PS2 release down the line, like other PSP games, right?

Considering the main criticism in the reviews was the games limited scope I don’t think it’s wise of Sony to spout on about the games amazing capabilities.

Well if your talking about handhelds, which they are, Sony’s right in this case, so why shouldn’t they brag.

Because in the end – no matter how much they brag it will still be seen as just another handheld game. Japan may eat it up, but thats gonna be the extent of it. I understand bite sized games on the go. But GT? I don’t know kinda seems as pointless as making WoW for the PSP. The fact that is handheld means exactly what this is – limited. So what if the GameBoy can’t do it? It isn’t going to make me want one any more.

You guys kill me! Sony is just the “can’t get right” of this generation, no matter how much they try. If you read between the lines, what they are saying the game is not possible on any other handheld. Think about it…What handheld system is powerful enough to do 800 cars and 35 tracks? Nothing out right now, so Sony is only telling the truth. Now about the price of the PSPGo…

What ever system Polyphony wanted GT mobile to be is the one powerfull enough to handel it.
If Sony made a DS, it would be GT DS, if they made an Iphone it would be iGT.
800 tracks and 35 cars are just numbers, nothing more. And you’ll find that every hyperbolic statement is meat with equal sarcasm.

DaMan, who gives a fuck about technical jargon bullshit. And who said anything about graphics? I’m aware of what an iPhone is capable of, but let me ask you – do you have one? IPhone racing games suck ass. All I’m saying is the scale of the game cannot be done on any other handheld right now.

Who gives a fuck if you like, hate, want, or don’t want this game? The point is Sony’s statement is a legitimate fact and they’re using it for marketing, as they should. PRESENT DAY, no other handheld could do this, 3D GTA’s, or several other games on PSP. No need to argue anything here really….lol.

it is possible, if someone would choose to spend that much time on an iPhone game. if “today, no games of that scale exist for iPhone ” is the same as “not possible on iPhone”, that yeah.
what does me, personally having an iPhone have to do with this? maybe I should be a fan of racing games as well?

I think Carmack has said the iPhone/iTouch is more powerful than the PSP in terms of processing and graphical power. It also has the advantage in terms of potential storage space with even the 4GB iPhone having more space than a 1GB UMD. I don’t think there’s any hardware reason it couldn’t do the game.
The only area it would fall down is the lack of physical controls, only a few iPhone games (like Wolfenstein and Mega-Man 2 v1.5) have managed to implement controls that work almost as well as actual buttons. Most of the time the controls are too twitchy or laggy to work well.

Let’s not get too stressed over this. It’s just marketing, it’s another way of saying exclusive. Only it sounds better and more appealing.
Hence, marketing. Glad so see you guys have still lost your shit over it though.

It’s a shame that a decent single-player mode doesn’t appear to be possible on PSP and PSPgo.
