Nintendo drops Wii trade price in UK, announces new bundle
Nintendo’s dropped the trade price of Wii in the UK and Ireland – having actually raised it earlier this year.
The news coming on the back of retail price drop for the US and Japan announced at TGS today.
Said the firm in a statement:
We will be reducing the trade price of Wii to retailers from 2nd October 2009. In the UK and Republic of Ireland we are also introducing a new configuration of Wii hardware from 2nd October 2009 which will replace the current offering and will include the Wii console and Wii Sports with the new Wii Sports Resort game and Wii MotionPlus accessory. This will be available to retailers at the newly reduced trade price. The ultimate price to consumers is, of course, determined by the retailers. Our aim has always been to expand the gaming population and there are still many more people out there who have not yet experienced the fun of video games. This compelling offer will hopefully make Wii more accessible to everyone.
The has caused some proper behind the scenes hilarity this morning. Such fun.

It would be shameful if the Wii gets a EU price cut similar to the US one and the UK gets left out.

Do people still take the Wii seriously?

A lower price with the newer Wii Sports *and* the Wii Motion Plus? That’s pretty decent.
“Do people still take the Wii seriously?”
Those who aren’t closed minded or wilfully ignorant, yes.
There are plenty of unique, inventive and top quality “hardcore” titles on the machine; if people choose to ignore their existence, that’s their own loss.

Interesting turn of phrase there. People who don’t take the Wii seriously are close minded and willfully ignorant, even if, they’ve owned one and thought it was a pile of poo.
Kudos to you sir!

It’s not really a lower price on the high street O’conner, me and the girlfriend bought a wii bundle including sports resort after the “price increase” for £180 – pretty much the “new lower price” so this sounds a wee bit like noise to draw some attention back to the wii after genuine price drops from sony and ms.
