Wedbush – No new consoles till at least 2013, Wii to win current round

In a giant report issued today, Wedbush Morgan’s predicted that no new console will be released until at least 2013.
“Because it is eminently clear that no new console is planned for launch in 2010 (the fifth year of the current cycle), we do not expect hardware or software sales to peak any time soon. Rather, we expect that hardware and software sales will peak, as they have in the past, in the year prior to the introduction of a new console; this cycle, we think that will happen several years from now, if at all,” said the paper.
“Hence, we believe that the “peak” of the cycle will be in year n-1, with “n” representing the launch of a next generation console. As we believe that will not occur until 2013 or later, we calculate year n-1 as 2012 or later.”
The report estimates sales figures up to 2011, putting Wii at the top of the home console heap at that point with 93 million units sold worldwide, compared to PS3 at 49 million and 360 at 44 million.

I still don’t see PS3 passing 360.

Yah, that was the figure that made me call bullshit on this chart.

Calling the Wii the winner this generation is a bit like predicting that Brazil will win the Confederations cup.

It’s not as crazy as some of the earlier predictions.

Who cares.
As long as I get to play GT5 this generation I’ll be happy.

So, judging by his first and second graph, he’s been wrong before. This especially: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/vgsales/images/a/a5/Screen_digest_2011_forecast.gif
Son, stop guessing and making wide reaching statements. For one, you’re saying the Wii will continue to sell through the roof? So, they aren’t going to reduce price and still outself other consoles, and not be considered a toy?
I should stop taking notice of what he says, but it’s becoming increasingly cringeworthy.

I don’t think anyone saw the Wii becoming this popular, nor that the PS3 would struggle so much.
It makes no difference any more though. In previous generations, the console with the widest userbase had all the best games and was the one to own (some may argue in favour of the Xbox over the PS2, but the latter clearly had the better software choice).
It’s totally different this time around. Wii is by far and away the most popular, but 360 and PS3 have the better games. So it doesn’t really matter who wins.

Im glad that they are not rushing a new system.
Hopefully, when they do release new systems, they will be alot more powerful than what we have currenty.
My worry is that they will try and pull a “Wii” and i dont want a xbox 360 or PS3 x2 model.
Im willing to wait along time for a new console but it had better be worth the wait, and not just a minor upgrade. Otherwise a bunch of gamers will be going back to the PC as the main platform.
Onlive sounds good, but until broadband is in every home, and its fast enough, i cant imagine this being the future for 2013. We have along way to go connection wise

I find the lack of Dreamcast in that graph disturbing since there’s a PS1 there..
