New Tekken 6 trailer brings the power

Tuesday, 21st April 2009 10:27 GMT By Patrick Garratt

Namco put out a new trailer of Tekken 6 this morning as part of the Microsoft Japan spring showcase, and very rocking it is too.

Power is everything. It says so there.

It’s out for PS3 and 360 this Autumn. Thanks, Kotaku.

    Speed beats power.
    Power beats technique.
    Technique beats speed.

Tekken has always had fantastic cutscenes.

Sadly, they have also always been completely and utterly irrelavant.

I’ll never understand why they feel the need to make up some nonsense story for a game like this. SF IV is great, but the story is not only pointless but also really bad. Likewise with Tekken.

    Really bad story!?

Ok, so a baby flies over the rainforests of Brazil, the plane crashes in an electro-magnetic storm, the baby survives, but grows into a big, green, electro-magnetically charged, savage streetfighting monster with orange hair.

    What’s really bad about that?

Why do fighting games need stories at all? Why not just have a bundle of slightly different characters kicking the shit out of each other for no reason other than entertainment? You know, like Leeds on a Saturday night.

Since SFIV now have a Championship mode, this could be close call.

Best 1:1 fighting series around, IMHO. Shits all over Street Fighter from a *very* great height.

There’s always *somebody* that has to bring up the old 2D vs 3D argument…

Pffft. I’d argue that, for the most part, 1:1 fighters play as 2D games regardless of their presentation.

But I love the character design in the KoF games more than any other franchise. I’m equally shit at all of them though, so debates on the intricacies of the respective games mechanics aren’t a factor.

KoF12 looks lush and KoF Starstage (if it’s not a joke) looks orgasmic.

    “KOF FTW”

King of Fighters just looks so goddamn cool. It’s not as lively as Guilty Gear and can’t match Street Fighter for balance and depth, but it has more attitude than both put together.

Seems like as good an opportunity as any to plug Flytrap ;)

@ Shatner – the very reason I love Namco’s fighters the best (Soul Calibur and Tekken) is that they incorporate the use of a 3D arena (through the use of side steps and dodging) to such great effect. Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast ruined me for all 2D or psuedo-2D fighters, and when this mechanic was properly incorporated in Tekken 5, I thought it made that series just as good.

I thought the cut scene stuff with Tekken games was a great reward for completing the game with different characters. I used to complete it with each just to see the strange story bit :). Tekken is very much a button masher fighter though – which is fine I’m a bit of a masher myself – it’s just very sophisticated compared to others.

Blerk you’ve said some stupid things in your time but this pretty much tops it. Tekken is the real King of Iron Fist (no pun intended).

LOL DB and the pun i was talking about was the name of tekken’s tournament

    “no pun attended”

There isn’t a pun for you to attend. Or even intend.

I love Tekken, but Street Fighter is in a league of its own.

they both are because one is a 2d fighter while the other one is 3d
