Sony to make mystery announcement on March 31

Price cut innit. Either that or it’s a major co-incidence that they’re making a big announcement on the last day of their financial year.

Maybe they made money this financial year and want to “celebrate” it with a price cut. )

Yeah… no, no money being made this year in the games division.

Although a price cut is good, I dont think it’s something that would require such cloak ‘n dagger approach as most of the publicity regarding said price cut will be announced through normal retail and industry channels. Wild guess. I rekon it’s an announcement regarding some sort of media service being introduced to PSN (along the lines of Netflix, although NOT Netflix obviously etc etc). Again, wild guess btw that I thought I would chuck in there.

Maybe Sony have finally realised the true skillz of “Redh3lix” as a gamer and have concluded it requires a global announcement? Never know.

Something other than a price cut would be more entertaining.

I dont know, there was a inkling telling me it was 2.70 but then, Sony wouldnt make this big of a fuss just for a Firmware.

Regarding announcement, I think I’ll actually be disappointed if they announce a price cut as it’s been rumoured for a good while now. Surely they dont expect a “oooh!” or “wow!” from such an announcement. Gotta be something else?

I bet its going to be a new 160 GB package. The current one with Uncharted gives a PAIN voucher for the game and the voucher expires on 3/30/09.

Or its going to be 80 GB package with Little Big Planet?

Did the notice go out to retailers too? If it is anything to do with price or a new bundle, they wouldn’t just warn gaming websites and blogs.

If this announcement is actually happening and it’s not just kotaku making stuff up, then with it being the last day of the financial year and – crucially – one week before Easter, this is almost certainly a price cut for PS3 and probably PS2 as well. Maybe new firmwares for PS3 and PSP to go with it.
