Capcom has just officially announced Dead Rising 2 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Unfortunately, the zombie virus was not contained at the conclusion of Dead Rising, spreading unchecked throughout the United States and Dead Rising 2 depicts a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike.

Canadian developer Blue Castle is working on the game and will be assisted by members of the original Dead Rising development team.

No release details were forthcoming, but Capcom has put out five incredibly good looking screenshots that you can see along with the full release after the break.

London – February 9, 2009 – Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Dead Rising™ 2 is in development for three different gaming platforms: the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment’s PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) and the PC. The sequel to the 1.5 million-plus selling Dead Rising™, Dead Rising 2 will take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, the all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.

Released in 2006, Dead Rising won praise across the globe for its mix of intense zombie action and dark humour, garnering numerous awards including IGN’s “Most Innovative Design for Xbox 360”, Gamespot’s “Best Action-Adventure Game” for 2006 and “Action Game of the Year” at the 2006 Spike TV Video Game Awards.

So the games based in some type of casino then? Surely they’ll be less of a choice for weapons in that case.

Not at all. Vegas style hotel casino complexes have more than just casinos in them.

Not impress. Fist Dead Rising was a good game. But this:

    1. Blue Castle the developer Major League Baseball 2K8. Wow so cool developer. Looks like Silent Hill Homecoming.
    2. I see screens, and i see what only decoration changes. Textures become better, decoration become worse.
    3. PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC – again: number of platform more important then quality. Capcom still hope what console game will been good sell on PC. Stupid idiot. PC gamer download Game from torrent, not buy.

Mart:”Not at all. Vegas style hotel casino complexes have more than just casinos in them.”

Surely though the stuff you’d find around even the biggest of hotels/casinos would never be as varied as what you’d find in a shopping center, i cant quite see how they’ll work an industrial drill in there.

Yeah, those are most definitely ‘concept art’. Still… interested to see how it turns out. Change of developer is a bit of a worry, though.

Well… Some can’t be concept art, some MUST be shots, ebcuase it’s the worst case of aliasing I have seen since….

Infact, I have never seen a worse case of aliasing.

Wait… I zoomed in, maybe it was just cus it was downsized. Anyway, Blerk it’s not really a worry. I don’t think creating a zombie clusterfuck game is anymore challenging than you’re average game.

I hope this time you get a customisable character.

I just hope they improve the shooting mechanic, it was terrible in the original.
