December NPD: Sales for LBP, MGS4 hits 1 million, and more

Wednesday, 21st January 2009 16:13 GMT By Mike

Gama has gotten hold of some NPD software sales data showing that Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet sold 611k units whilst Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4 crept past the million mark: 1.076m to be precise.

Resistance 2 sold 598k whilst Tomb Raider Underworld only sold 246,000 copies on three platforms – no wonder Eidos lowered its fiscal expectations.

Lots more through the link.

That means now MGS4 has sold 5 mill right?

Or is it still on 4 mill, not including the LE or the MGS4 bundle?

MGS4 only sold a million copies? I’m surprised!

Edit: Ah, they’re not counting bundles. Still… seems lower than I’d have expected.

Massive system seller. I think God War III could potentially shift even more though, epsecially by that time there should be a price reduction.

I wouldn’t put money on that one. Despite being critically acclaimed and well loved by the fans God of War games have never been huge sellers. (I think only one of them made the PS2 all time top 40 with something like 2m sales).

Tis the wrong genre to generate massive attention.

I’ll give Mike the benefit of the doubt. Morriss was wrong so often it was easier to keep track of when he was right. :P

Either way, MGS4 is doing very well for itself worldwide.

So much for LBP “flopping” as many sites and posters have claimed. I reckon it’s done two million globally in its first eleven weeks which, for a new IP, is excellent.

2m might be pushing it a bit. 1.5m isn’t out of the question though. (Actually sold that is)

i’m not gonna call lbp a total success, 1.5mil(maximum) and im pretty damn sure that now that sales are wayyyyy down for this.
