Midway says secret game looks “better” than Gears 2, downplays “spiral of doom” talk
Gears 2, your days as prettiest hulking man-girl on the block are numbered. At least, they are if Midway creative director Simon Woodroffe is to be believed.
“I just saw a demo of a new Midway game that’s in development. I can’t tell you too much about it, but they’ve been on it for three months and it looks as good if not better than Gears 2,” he told VideoGamer.
“This is only possible because of the sharing of technology,” he added – in direct opposition to earlier allegations that Unreal 3 tech-sharing had yanked Midway into a “spiral of doom.”
“[The secret game]‘s already looking as good as Gears 2, but the game mechanics are kind of different. It’s going to be really big and really important,” Woodroffe explained. “It’s not often, especially when you’re a cynical type, that you see a prototype or creative slice and just get blown away by it. But in this case, the hype is justified.”
Additionally, he mentioned another “really cool game” rattling around in Midway Chicago’s oven, but stopped short of saying anything other than the words “really,” “cool,” and “game.” Apparently, both titles are slated for a 2010 release.

I am back with extra troll. Missed this place actually.
Anyway, seriously, Gears 2 has superb art direction, and thats what makes it look great to people. Art design is what people who are fucking stupid moan about it’s ‘art direction’ mean, and sure it’s all a bit 90′s, but the technical art direction is brilliant. It’s what makes the shard hale and stuff so amazing looking.
And I also can’t fault the European city thing they have got going on. So suck on that art design haters.

Are you sure that’s what he meant, Pud?
It’s just that when I read his post, it read more like this to me; I don’t buy that Midway isn’t suffering at the moment, they often make loud claims but they’ve made a lot of shite games too, so this secret title probably won’t be anything special.
There was no indication that he actually said that in relation to Gears of War 2, or that he was saying that Gears was a crappy game (visually or otherwise).

Ahh Midway, they won’t be gone, they’ll pull soemthing out of the bag. We haven’t even got to the celebrity endorsements yet Blerk.
