Avatar customization requires 256Mb of storage

nxe3.jpg

According to this X3F story, Microsoft’s NXE announcement from Tokyo this morning was a note that Avatar customization requires 256Mb of storage.

We’re looking at you, Core owners. Hard drive or bust. More through the link.

NXE was confirmed this morning for a November 19 launch.

They’ve changed their mind now, they’ve decided that you need the 256mb of storage for the whole thing, not just for the avatars. Not that that really makes a difference. :-D

Have you seen the new 360 bundles with free games they announced? Casual overload – aargh! Seems these are coming worldwide, too – this announcement’s for the US, but they confirmed the same bundles for Australia earlier on.

I didn’t read it the way that you’ve put it.

I read it as “you need a 256Mb memory card or higher as the 64Mb card doesn’t cover it”. I didn’t see it as you need 256Mb to create one as well, thats bigger than an XBLA release.

Is it not that the avatar might be say 100Mb’s therefore arcade users are fine, but core users need to upgrade?

Amazing. I remember making whole games in about 8k.

It’s hard to imagine what they’re doing with all that memory.

That was a terrifying tangent.

JP: I wonder how many Elites one could fit into the space of one avatar?

With the way things are these days though, I suppose it is understandable. If they have Perfect World levels of customisation (I can have asymetrical eyes) then I can respect that.

So wait… what happens to the core owners who don’t have a hard drive? Their entire memory card is going to get cobbled up by this system update?

trav: I can’t see them making a mistake like that, it’ll probably just be that the Avatar system is optional, and off by default for those who don’t happen to have a hard drive. I really can’t see them forcing people to waste an entire memory card on it for the sake of making it optional…

People with small memory cards will just have avatars made out of pipe cleaners.

Does Neil Buchanan come onscreen to show you how to make your pipe cleaner avatar?

The Avatar stuff is optional.

You don’t need to do it, and I can’t see myself doing it, because they look pretty pants to me.

I’d rather stick with my Gamerpic thanks.

They said in one of the previews earlier today that it wasn’t optional. You can keep your gamerpic, but you still need to make an avatar for the party stuff, etc.
