Famitsu scares up first details on Level-5’s PSP horror RPG, Ushiro

This week’s issue of Japanese game rag Famitsu brings word that Level-5 is developing a brand new RPG. Oh, and it’s on the PSP. Neat!

Titled “Ushiro,” which roughly translates to “behind,” the game will slip you into the oh-too-trendy garb of a shinigami (Japanese grim reaper), who will “cling on behind people that have exhausted their lives to experience their lives.”

Once you’ve Yoda-ed your way onto your quarry, it’s apparently up to you to “observe, possess, and fulfill the wishes” of that person. You’ll also do battle with a monster that embodies “a person’s malice.”

Sounds fascinating. Consider our interest piqued.

The game hits Japan sometime in 2009.

Thanks, Gamekyo.

That sounds pretty interesting! Shame it’s on the PSP.

@Blerk: A DS game with all animation by Studio Ghibli?? You sir are a gentleman and a scholar – and have made my day.

/is a Ghibli nut.

I really love Ghibli stuff too. Bit of a shame it’s all going to be squished onto a teenie DS screen, though.

Seems to be all portable news this week – Sega’s new RPG is for the DS too. Bah, humbug.

re: teenie screen – true but I’ll still import it, squint at the screen in a mole-fashion and wade through the translations on the web… unlikely to get a global release I’d have thought :(
