Rare: No plans to revive more old franchises

Rare’s said it has no current plans to revive any more old franchises.

“At the moment, probably not. We’ve always got to have a reason to revive a franchise, we don’t do games just for the sake of them,” senior animator Elissa Miller told 360 Gamer magazine.

No new Jet Force Gemini, then. Boo. More on CVG.

Any chance of some Virtual Console loving then please? I’m sure Microsoft wouldn’t mind!

Man, Jet Force Gemini… might go dust off the N64 when i get home, brilliant game :D

Good! Do something new, RARE! In all likelihood you don’t actually suck, you’re just making the wrong games for the wrong market.

    Tips:
    1. Make it cartoony, but not kiddie. Play Okami.
    2. Drop the British schoolboy humour. It’s too 90s and it stopped being funny once you turned 15.
    3. Microsoft isn’t Nintendo. Nintendo fans have not bought 360s. Try to find some middle ground between Microsoft’s gun-metal testosterone and Nintendo’s saccharine twee bouncy horribleness.
    4. Be more Ultimate, less RARE.

    Peter Moore had an impact?

Agreed with Blerk. Rare cartoony look works for Viva Pinata only from an aesthetic point of view. And I won’t comment on the rest since I only played the first Viva Pinata and Perfect Dark Zero - and have only seen videos of other things.

Maybe they just heard LBP went gold? (headsup Pat)

They should look at how Lionhead do cartoony. Fable isn’t realistic, but it’s not ‘comedy animals’, and that sits nicely with the Xbox audience regardless of how bloodthirsty they are.

Don’t see what Rare have done wrong, Blerk. Maybe you should actually play the games instead of, you know, criticising them?

Oh yeah, that’s right, you’ve played them “round a friends house” haven’t you? That old chesnut! ;)

  6. No_PUDding said:

    Are you talking to me?

Becuase seriously, I play msot 360 games round friends houses so I can honestly see if I want it or not.

  7. morriss said:

Playing rounds a friends house isn’t the same as sitting down with a game by yourself and investing time in it.

But, no. I wasn’t talking to you.

Well I agree it is an old chestnut, but I did pass judgement on the gameplay, althoguh not textually here.

    Until now…

-Perfect Dark Zero was fun. At the time the graphics were wow.

-Viva Pinata was great, and weird. And the art direction suited it.

Blast Corps 2 with modern graphics, a fancy next gen physics system and a level editor?? You know you want to!!!!

Rare haven’t made many decent games for the xbox or xbox 360.

Viva Piñata is ok I wouldn’t say its a great game.
The only one game I thought was decent on the original xbox was conkers and even then it wasn’t that great.

I have high hopes for the new Banjo game. I played the original religiously on the n64 but a part of me gets the feeling its just not going to be that great.

    Just the 360…

    Kameo: 79%
    Perfect Dark Zero: 81%
    Viva Pinata: 84%
    Viva Pinata 2: 83%

They may not be perfect, or AAA… but I think they fall safely into the range of decent. Whether or not you liked them is of course, down to your preferences entirely.

Apart from Viva those other 2 are pretty average in my opinion.

To each their own I don’t think Microsoft have gotten their money from buying Rare.

  13. morriss said:

Really enjoyed Kameo: it was just a bit samey. Viva’s 1 and 2 are brilliant and PD0 I never played.

  14. No_PUDding said:

Viva’s are great, becuase they aren’t like anything else.

They don’t massively appeal to many, but the sense of satisfaction you get is great. And as I said PDZ was fun.
