Warriors Orochi sequel announced for December release

Apparently, the game we know as Warriors Orochi 2 isn't actually the sequel to Warriors Orochi. That game has just been announced for release this year.

Andriasang reports the new game was revealed in this week's Famitsu.

Warriors Orochi is a cross-over series which brings together the characters of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. The first game, called Musou Orochi in Japan, released on PS2, PSP and Xbox 360 in 2007, and was followed in 2008 by another one which is called Musou Orochi Maou Sairin - it's apparently more an expansion than a sequel, despite being a full, stand alone game available in the West as Warriors Orochi 2.

The new game will feature 120 characters, a series record, and a custom scenario creator, the fruits of which can be uploaded and shared with other players. The creator will be supported by a social suite, allowing players to comment on each other's creations.

Famitsu lists both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version due in Japan in December.

Tecmo Koei's international naming strategies have caused confusion before - the Dynasty Warriors series' latest is number 7, but the Japanese original - Shin Sangoku Musou - is at number 6.
