Star Wars Battlefront 2: here's your first look at Star Card loot crates

Star Wars Battlefront 2 jumps on the loot crate trend. Here's how that works.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 makes a few changes to the economy seen in the first game.

Some of these changes are pretty welcome, like the way Star Wars Battlefront 2 ditches hero and vehicle pick-ups for the Battle Points system. Others, well - your mileage will vary.

YouTuber BattlefrontUpdates has the scoop on how Star Wars Battlefront 2's loot crates will work, detailing the system in a series of three videos you can watch in this very post - although remember the system may change before release.

In the current build, every Star Wars Battlefront 2 player will receive a loot crate just for logging in each day, but otherwise you'll purchase them with credits. Credits are earned in-game, and the video doesn't mention whether you'll be able to buy them with real cash too.

The loot crates contain Star Cards, crafting materials and occasionally credits. Similarly to the first Star Wars Battlefront, Star Cards are equipped to modify abilities and attributes.

In Star Wars Battlefront 2, Star Cards come in five rarity tiers from common to legendary. Legendary tier Star Cards have extra effects on top of the card's base bonus, but they're very rare.

Legendary cards are only available through random draws, but otherwise you can upgrade the rarity of your cards using crafting components. To make opening Star Wars Battlefront 2 loot crates more rewarding, duplicate cards will automatically convert to crafting components, so at least you know you can upgrade your existing favourites even when you don't get something new.

In the two videos below you'll see some Star Wars Battlefront 2 footage showing off how various Star Cards of different rarities compare to each other, as well as details on how Star Cards fit into the overall progression and customisation system.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 releases in November for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. EA has promised that it learned from the first game and has gone all-out with a proper narrative single-player campaign. Also, all DLC will be free.

Sounds like a pretty good time, especially with Star Wars fever running high.
