Namco Q2 profits up 11.9% to $2.5 billion thanks to strong sales 

Namco Bandai's reported revenue of ¥194.2 billion ($2.5 billion) for Q2 of its current fiscal year, which is up 11.9% compared to ¥173.6 billion ($2.2 billion) the year prior.

Profits came in at ¥8.0 billion ($102.5 million) compared to last year's loss of ¥1.9 billion ($24.3 million) during the same quarter, reports Gamasutra.

The firm noted its Content Business sector which includes video games, reported increased revenue and income year-over-year thanks to banner game sales.

Quarterly figures for the sector weren't provided, but for the first half of the current fiscal quarter ending September 30, revenue came in at ¥86.7 billion ($1.1 billion). Compared to last year, the sector was up 121.4% over the ¥71.5 billion ($916.2 million) reported for the same quarter.

Namco reported 3.4 million console games sold, and 3.8 million portable units moved, totaling 7.2 million units moved overall.

Of these, 1.7 million were for PS3, 1.9 million were sold for PSP, 1.1 million units were moved on NDS, 976,000 sold for Xbox 360, 3DS titles moved 712,000 units and 565,000 units were sold for Wii.

Tales of Xillia moved 740,000 units, AKB1/48 2 moved 380,000 units, Taiko Drum Master Portable DX sold 220,000 units, and One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP moved a total of 210,000 units.

The firm reported earlier today that Dark Souls has shipped 1.5 million units since it launched, with shipment numbers in North America hitting 620,000 units, Europe 470,000 units, and 370,000 units were shipped in Japan, with From Software the publisher in that region.
