Homeworld Remastered Collection dated, first gameplay footage released

Homeworld Remastered Collection has a release date, and as promised, the gameplay footage of Gearbox Software’s remake has been released along with the news that Homeworld Shipbreaker development continues.

The video was shown during the Inside Gearbox Software panel earlier this morning at PAX South.

Last year, Gearbox had said hoped to release the title by February 2015 , and now we know that is indeed the case.

Homeworld Remastered Collection includes Homeworld and Homeworld 2, and was remastered by Gearbox in cooperation with key members of the original development team at Relic and "passionate" members of the fan community.

The score was fully remastered and new voice recordings from the original cast were added alongside the graphical upgrade.

The collection also includes the original versions of both games with compatibility updates.

The game will run you $34.99 on Steam, and if you pre-order, you can knock 15% off and pay $29.74 instead.

Anyone who purchases the collection will receive free access to the Homeworld Remastered Steam multiplayer beta when the collection releases. Competitive multiplayer modes for both games have been joined and will offer access to races, maps and game modes from both games integrated into one multiplayer experience.

This beta combines code from over 15 years ago with newly-written changes, and will be shaped by fan feedback as development progresses.

The high-definition remastering of the real-time strategy series will be released on PC on February 25.

Gearbox also announced that development on Homeworld Shipbreakers is progressing with Blackbird Interactive. Founded by Homeworld veterans Rob Cunningham and Aaron Kambeitz, Blackbird and Gearbox announced the PC title in late 2013 as a prequel to the first game.

More information on Shipbreakers will be announced as development progresses.
