The best PAID iOS games this week

Horizon Chase: $2.99 (iPad, iPhone)

Horizon Chase is the very best arcade racer available on mobile right now. It’s a wonderful tribute to driving games of old. You can clearly see, and feel, where it’s been inspired by Outrun, Lotus Turbo Challenge, and other top racing games from the 80’s and 90’s. The music deserves a special mention also. It’s right up there with the magical sound showers of old. Essential.

Beat da Beat: 99c (iPad, iPhone)

Beat da Beat combines the two gaming genres of bullet-hell and music rhythm, and despite all odds, it works. All bullet-hell shooters have an element of rhythm to them but Beat da Beat brings this to the fore. It’s packed with humour and everything looks and controls great.

incurve: 99c (iPad, iPhone)

incurve is one of those games, based on one well executed key dynamic, that often works so well on mobile. The aim of incurve is to move a dot as far up the screen as you can. While you’re touching the screen several bigger dots have orbital gravity. Progress upwards is made by slinging your dot from one gravitational pull to another. Well worth a play.

The best FREE iOS games this week

PAC-MAN 256 (iPad, iPhone)

What the Crossy Road guys did next. PAC-MAN 256 is a twist on the massively popular Crossy Road. It borrows the same voxel look, perspective, and controls, but everything plays out on a never-ending Pac-Man themed stage. Survive as long as you can as Pac-Man by collecting pills, using power-ups, and eating ghosts. Just watch out for that 256 kill screen!

Glow Monsters (iPad, iPhone)

Still on the Pac-Man theme… Glow Monsters involves eating all the pills on the 100+ stages while avoiding patrolling enemies, called Glow Monsters. The twist here is that you can rotate certain sections of the stages to make and break pathways. The difficulty ramps nicely from sedate to frantic and it’s all great fun.

Monsters Ate My Metropolis (iPad, iPhone)

Monsters Ate My Metropolis is an excellent, fun, funny, card battling game of city destroying Kaiju. Enough said! You build your deck and battle players online to unlock more Kaiju and prizes and make your way up the leaderboard. There’s currently over 100 cards to collect and it all looks and plays wonderfully.
