In an interview with Gamekyo, Nintendo of France deputy managing director Philippe Lavoué has seemingly said that over 150,000 red Wiis have been sold in the country.

Speaking via the magic of machine translation, the exec apparently added that 30 percent of existing Wii owners registered with Club Nintendo in France have bought the special edition hardware.

Lavoué added that the Mario Kart black Wii hardware bundle has also sold in the 150,000 region. Both packs were released for Christmas 2010, the red version commemorating the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

According to the Gamekyo piece, Wii has an installed base of around 1 million in France.

Other figures given in the interview show that 70 percent of French Wii and DS owners have played a Mario game.

Lavoué also devoted some small time to putting down persistant rumours of an imminent follow up to the Wii and the legendary Nintendo phone.

We'll check the figures with Nintendo UK. Thanks Go Nintendo.
