Devil May Cry 5 PC patch takes Denuvo out
Capcom has removed Denuvo from Devil May Cry 5 on PC.
Devil May Cry 5 received a small update on PC earlier this morning. Although Capcom has yet to release official patch notes, SteamDB recorded a change to the game's .exe file upon the patch's release.
The only change in this updated version is the removal of Denuvo's anti-tamper DRM. Indeed, the game's official Steam page no longer makes mention of Denuvo.
This change is actually not unexpected from Capcom, who usually removes Denuvo within a year from a game's release. Resident Evil 2 Remake has had its own version of Denuvo removed in December last year. At this point, Monster Hunter World is Capcom's only recent release with the Denuvo DRM.
Denuvo has turned into a bit of a dirty word in games in recent years. Some reports suggest that games which use it suffer a hit to performance on PC, as a result of Denuvo's utilisation of the CPU, where others found marginal gains when Denuvo is taken out.
