Crimson Peak Director: Silent Hills' Cancellation "Makes No Sense"

Guillermo del Toro is unhappy with the way Konami treated his horror collaboration with Hideo Kojima.

Back in April, Konami cancelled Silent Hills, the planned reboot of the franchise that would've united designer Hideo Kojima with Hollywood director Guillermo del Toro. The game was reportedly cancelled due to Konami's split with Hideo Kojima, as a larger plan to move away from console game development. For Del Toro, it represents the second time a planned horror game has been cancelled, with the first being InSane at THQ.

What dreams may come...

While on the promotional circuit for his upcoming gothic romance, Crimson Peak, Del Toro told Bloody Disgusting that the cancellation made no sense to him.

"Makes no f**king sense at all," the director said. "We had a great experience and had great story sessions with hundreds upon hundreds of designs. Some of the stuff that we were designing for Silent Hills I've seen in games that came after, like The Last of Us, which makes me think we were not wrong, we were going in the right direction."

"The thing with Kojima and Silent Hills is that I thought we would do a really remarkable game and really go for the jugular," del Toro added. "We were hoping to actually create some sort of panic with some of the devices we were talking about and it is really a shame that it's not happening. When you ask about how things operate, that makes no f**king sense at all that that game is not happening."

It's a shame the project could not be completed, though del Toro has previously said that he and Kojima will still work together on something else. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that the "something else" will be a video game.

"I love working with Kojima-san. We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that's not going to be [Silent Hills]," he told IGN back in July.

As it stands, we're still awash with upcoming horror titles, including the loving homage to Silent Hills' playable teaser P.T.: Allison Road. That title recently left Kickstarter to be published by Team17. Beyond that, there's also Outlast 2, Friday the 13th, Through the Woods, Draugen from Red Thread Games, and The Park from Funcom.
