The Star Wars: Battlefront 2 beta looked great and ran okay on consoles, and it’s even more of a treat on PC.
The Star Wars: Battlefront 2 beta, which ended recently, showed significant graphical upgrades compared to the 2015 original. Thanks to a new dynamically-scaling resolution, DICE was able to push boundaries further on PS4, and Xbox One.
Unfortunately, alongside the visual upgrade came a hit to performance, and big departure from the near-locked 60fps original.
Compared to consoles, the PC version offers a few notable benefits. According to new analysis by Digital Foundry, the PC version allows for an increase in physics-based particle effects, much less pop-in, increased draw distances, higher resolution textures and shadows, improved ambient occlusion, and improved reflections.
Adding to that the fact that you can adjust resolution scaling up to 200%, and turn on dynamic resolution (automatically dropping the resolution in hectic moments), and the PC version is guaranteed to look the best even on mid-range hardware. Speaking of performance, on a PC running an i5 6600K and a GTX 1060, Battlefront 2 exceeds 60fps most of the time running at 1080p with max settings.
Interestingly, the site noted that DirectX 12 implementation wasn’t working as intended, resulting in noticeable stutters when turned on.
