Don’t like Assassin’s Creed? Chronicles: India may change your mind

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India is a very different prospect to the huge open-world slogs of the main series.

If you’re yet to check out Assassin’s Creed Chronicles, it’s definitely time. The new episode is set in India, and as you’ll see in the deep dive trailer before, is a mostly side-scrolling stealth platformer.

Remember how we like those? Think of games like Mark of the Nina, Gunpoint, Stealth Inc and The Swindle: using your various tools and gadgets to creatively solve puzzling level design. This is where Prince of Persia might have ended up if Ubisoft hadn’t rebooted it into the third dimension, where a spin-off prototype later gave birth to Assassin’s Creed.

Anyway, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India hits PC, PS4 and Xbox One on January 12. It will also be available alongside Russia and last year’s China in a Chronicles multi-pack in February.

So cool to see Ubisoft letting teams tackle smaller projects, doubling down on a series of core ideas – as opposed to the sprawling open-world affair of core games like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
