"Souls-style combat" promised in ex-BioWare vet's Kickstarter, Mooncrest

The Mooncrest Kickstarter has gone live, seeking your help to deliver on some very ambitious promises.

Mooncrest is the debut project from Knightmayor, a team founded by four former BioWare staffers.

Inspired by the team's Neverwinter Nights module, Twilight, Mooncrest is a single-player narrative-driven RPG for PC, which combines "Souls-style" combat with logic-based puzzle solving.

Players take on the role of Sera, a Paladin, but their actions and dialogue choices will also shape Pirotase, her thief sidekick.

The RPG's Kickstarter campaign calls for $400,000, which is a hefty sum but still well short of the millions a game of this size should cost. Knightmayor acknowledged this "fair question" and said a year of pre-production has helped enormously.

"There are three areas we are focusing on that will help reduce overall costs," the developer revealed on its campaign page. These are: using a proven technology (Unity), balacning efficiency with quality (stylised art avoids triple-A graphics arms race), and human cost (contracting freelancers for some asset production to reduce overhead).

It's probably worthwhile noting that the team mostly has concept art to show at this stage, which is pretty par for the course given the projected February 2017 release date. If you want to know more before backing, check out the Mooncrest website.
